Reading the sad news about Greville Starkey I was reminded about the great cup races in the lae 70s with the likes of Le Moss and Buckskin. I always used to have my 10p ew on a horse, I thought, called Shangamuzo who was somewhat a bit player in those races but occasionally popped up! I was convinced Starkey rode him for Guy Harwood but it would seem he was a Stoute horse. Anyhow the question is was it a GS mount? Or am I thinking of a different horse. Used to run in brown and yellow diamonds I think.

Think you´re right moose. Starkey rode a lot for Stoute in the 70/80s. He won the Oaks on Fair Salinia for MS.

Right moose. Owned by Sheikh Mohammed. Greville rode it when he was awarded the 1988 Gold Cup following Royal Gait`s disqualification. Also won Gold Cup the following year with Willie Carson in the saddle @ 8/11.

Greville also won the Gold Cup in 1966 on Fighting Charlie for Lady Mairi Bury and Freddie Maxwell. Lester had rode it to win the race the previous year.
