High draw a must in 5f sprints and also advantageous at other distances. Fahey, Johnston, Nicholls and Easterbys do well at the track.

If you are a front runner or prominent racer, then yes. If however, you are a hold up horse, you wouldn't want to be getting trapped on that far rail.

I wouldn't, for example, fancy the chances of Matsunosuke or Indian Trail today from a high trap.

fol hollow

to follow up last years win in the race from the front and make it 3/3 at the track CD. should be able to get out from 13 and grab a good pitch has a lot of pace to burn and has run this CD in good times holding on well at the end never seeing a rival.

on this quite big so fingers crossed!

I seem to remember that towards the start of last years flat season, the high draw theory at Beverley was blown apart by some, at first glance, odd looking results.
Didn't the CoC remark that it was due to dog-walkers making some part of the track quicker, or some other odd remark / reason ?

££££££ - I'd much rather be drawn high and take my chances of getting a gap on a hold up horse rather than be drawn very low. Plenty of hold up horses have won down the years coming from off the pace drawn high. But I take your point you do need luck in running.

Winners from very low single figure stalls hardly ever win over the 5f trip. Hence why you get so many withdrawn in theseraces who have poor draws.

wasn't there track work done before last season in an attempt to negate the high draw bias, move the rails or something ?? ..
Report Duvauchelle April 14, 2010 1:06 PM BST
high draw used to be an advantage but last year they watered away the bias.

^ Yes, im not saying i'd want a low draw, just that you must be careful in assuming a high berth is a must.

These races nearly always produce some sort of carnage on the far rail at the 1 pole, with the hold up performers drawn high looking for a run.

These draw theories are always open to debate, but my opinion, is that the running style of the horse also needs to fit the draw.

With that in mind, i wouldn't be looking to back front runners drawn low, but equally, i'd be avoiding hold up runners drawn very high.

Just my opinion of course.

i haven't seen much to suggest there still isn't a good bias for high numbers in sprints with 12+ runners, even better for those racing prominently!
