Extract from 'The Good, The bad and the ugly of Aintree':

THE people who shopped Arthur Moore to the beaks: They'd seen him give King John's Castle a thwack with a spruce branch, after the recalcitrant beast had disgraced himself at the start of the National, and they were apparently outraged. I'm all against animal cruelty, but do people seriously believe a dirty great half-ton racehorse is going to be unduly troubled by a stroppy old geezer with a twig. Go and find something real to be outraged by.

Punishment of an animal after the event is brainless and suggests a lack of respect. I'm left wondering how he treats his horses away from the cameras and public.
