errr? local communities can have a ref. to decide on the level of council tax they pay.

They can? right... so I can decide I want to pay zero ctax and then when there is no money for (example) meals on wheels and a relative of mine starves to death....

I can sue the council :D

what f*cking planet are these people on

It's an election they can say all sorts of sh1t ( tough on crime tough on the causes of crime was my favourite) and once elected just get on with the same old same old, just with extra taxes.

If they said all council employees excessive PENSIONS will be halved, and then frozen per annum - that would save an absolute fortune ...

and free up an extraordinary amount of money for proper council services.

Cannot stand them nor the Lib Dems, make promises they know they cannot keep.

They are a bit too radical for my liking.

Although I do see the reasoning behind withdrawing from Europe.

When did we agree to be ruled by Europe?. I thought we went into Europe for trading purposes not to be dictated to, i thought that was why we won the second World war.
By:

exactly - and for a supposedly democratic country the handling of the vote over the Lisbon Treaty had more in keeping with a dictatorship!

I think that if the UK does ever withdraw from Europe the cons will outweigh the pros.

I mean the UK as an industry is severly battered. We no longer produce anything (not on the level that the country once did). The EU enables the UK to trade freely, we go out we lose that.

Although I do like the idea of bringing the Great back in 'Great Britain' I just think the UK in its current state needs Europe.

Yes our manufacturing base has suffered severe erosion in recent years - but why would we only want to trade with the EU? Don't China and America make everything we need anyway...
We don't gain from being in the EU these days - and the on-going open-door policy and the cost of rescuing Greece will make a bad situation even worse.

If the EU was ever going to work (and I'm not sure it ever was...) it was because a group of reasonably wealthy countries banded together - those days are long gone.

hello

I didn't mean get into power; I meant get into Parliament. If they can manage just a handful of MPs then at least there will be a voice for an EU ref. I would imagine the BNP will also get some seats, and there are many EU sceptics so there is some hope that this issue won't be allowed to die.

I agree ST - they're both likely to win a lot more than a single seat :D

Fancy a wager on this?

c'mon then... stick your money where you mouth (keyboard) is :-)

Do you really believe that UKIP/BNP aren't going to get any MPs elected? You're far too intelligent to think otherwise ST. Call-me-dave is morphing into blair with each passing day... what other non-left wing party is there?

withdraw from europe ;1) who is going to defend us in case of war .
2) our products will be so uncompetitive so uk plc will go bust .
3) the £1 pound against the euro and the dollar will go into freefall, forget about spanish holidays
Just a small number of problems coming out of EUROPE WOULD CAUSE.

1) who is going to defend us in case of war .

Why would you think for one moment that anyone in Europe would rush to our aid?

2) our products will be so uncompetitive so uk plc will go bust

And what's to stop us selling to other markets? Do you think the prices we pay now are so wonderfully cheap? Not when you take into the account the other costs of belonging to Europe. Familiar with Betfair's better odds :-) and the premium charge at all :-(
If we're getting such a great deal on prices - how come we buy so much from China?

3) the £1 pound against the euro and the dollar will go into freefall, forget about spanish holidays

Why will that happen? Look at the likely cost of bailing out Greece - what do you think that's going to go to any member state's currency? That's just scaremongering and you know it. As for Spanish holidays.... ffs.... we're fast losing control of our borders, our health and education system can't cope with level of immigration and you're worried about your right to have two weeks eating sausage and egg in blistering sunshine.

Just a small number of problems coming out of EUROPE WOULD CAUSE.

Look at the last lot they voted in!

yeahyeay ; The only solution for us to come out of Europe is to become part of the Unites States . Uk as a stand alone country , now the rest of Europe has formed is utter annihilation and poverty in this country taking us back 100 years . The Greek problem is been shared out amongst the community of Europe . You must look at the shape of Europe in 20 year time . The power house of China is a worry to the western world .

I've got the perfect export for China! You know how unbalanced their male/female birth rate is... we can export female benefit claimants who turn out kids with conveyor belt effiecency! Proven fertility and we know they'll bed anyone!

We'll be world leaders in this - the map will be pink again people.... world domination awaits!
