Not necessarliy so Cardiff.
In a filthy e/w race the win part is usually poor value but the place part can offer terrific value that outweighs the poor value of the win part.

Sixteen runner handicaps with 1/4 the odds 1st 4 can be a good bet.

Muqbil,

I agree with you there. Place terms for 16 runner handicaps should never exceed 1/5 odds mathematically (on a 100% book). If all runners were theoretically 15/1 each and the place terms 15/4 then the bookmaker would take in 16 units and pay out 19. The shorter the favourite goes the more out of line the payouts get in favour of the punters.

if the circumstances favour it why not bookies hate successful each way punters

Its a good bet on here beacuse you can alter the percentage on the win and place type imo
Cheers

Backing e/w is a waste of money. You are betting on the assumption the horse wont win.

Consider a 10/1 chance. Your stake is £50 - you bet it to win, it loses and you're down £50. Sametotal stake (but e/w) = £50, it loses ,you're down £50.
If it wins( win only) your profit is £500.
Backing e/w(assume 1/5th odds) your profit is £300
If it places - you profit £25 for your £50 ( i.e a 1/2 shot)

For those who keep a record of all your bets. Odds are, that a single win only bet(at your stake), will make more profit over the long run, than will an each way bets ( halving the stake)

If the favs 1/5 on & second best is the 10/1 shot in a 8/9 runner field you would have to be a sandwich short of a picnic NOT TO BACK THE 10/1 SHOT E/WAY.

bookies would rather not offer the public the single bet imo they like accumalators

geoff m

a) the odds you describe for 2nd fav - not likely
b) if you're betting in these type of races - i'd give up
c) very often what looks obvious - will lose you money imo !

So my trainer has a win % of 5% and a place % of 40%. He runs around 40 horses per year(very typical)

I place 40 * £50 win per race @ 10's = 2 winners (1000 profit), 38 losers (1900 loss) Total - 900 loss

I Place £25 * £25 EW per race @ 10's = 16 winners (1000 profit), 24 losers (1200 loss) Total - 200 loss

Dont matter how you look at it percentages and price is everything. FACT

Lol geoff m I wouldn't play that market, thats how many punters see it. My point is you cant say its better or worse without stats.

I'd rather do a short priced each way double ;-)
