I have backed this horse, for the following reasons:
So far in April the trainer has sent out 12 runners.
4 have won, and a further 4 have been placed. 3 of those placed were over todays trip.
The horse itself is the only runner in the race who can boast of winning over this trip, at the same class, carrying the same amount of weight around this time last year (May).
Most importantly however, it was 7-1 which I view as a bit of value.
There's a 6f class 3 race worth 9k in July at Ponty which Dickie Le Davoir has won for the last couple of years and could well be being targeted again, but the gods in their infinite wisdom have conspired to produce ideal conditions today to allow this fellow to extend his course/distance wins tally to three.
He's been keeping fit on the AW and running ok'ish with a couple of seconds from a lower handicap rating. Today he runs off a rating of 68 which is a pound lower than his CD win last July in a class 3 Hcap
He has 5lb apprentice Billy Cray on top today who's taken the last 4 mounts on this fellow and who is on fire at the moment with 4 wins from his last 12 rides including his last race.
What I really like about the race is the pace profile. If you look at the pace page: http://www.patternform.co.uk/pontefract_2010-04-13_220_pace.htm for the race, you'll see that there is pace from stalls 1-4 and stalls 9-13. Dickie tends to dwell and from his 8 draw there should be nothing on his outside only two to three inside to allow him a middle passage into the bend and slingshot into the middle of the track for his usual late run with the early speed dying.
His formline on GS/Gd over 6f reads 92441621351 with two wins and a second coming here at Pontefract.
The break of 66 days is a bit of a concern but from his 5 starts with 60day+ break he's managed a 2nd and 3rd. He's been drifting all morning and has hit to 20 mark on here. He could go out some more but I've jumped in at a price which seems reasonable

gl mate and a nice little write up, have gone in on this horse a number of times, always waiting for the late rattling finish.
be interesting to see what it goes off at on here, certainly ticks the right boxes.
perhaps guesty has it lined up for thursk this friday?
days off since past wins read 4-3-10-2-6-9-26-2-13
you have pointed out that he has placed after longer layoffs but perhaps its friday when its 'expected'.
;)

I'm on D L D as well, ding dong! Maybe it's the weather in Ponty. Dickie prefers sunning himself in the S of France and relaxing on the beach with a glass of champagne watching the fillies go by. Tough northern weather may do for him, but let's hope not.
