I remember seeing these somewhere, think they were published by the track, even when Turftrax where finished. Wanted to have a look at Sea The Stars Guineas run and some of Delegators Newmarket runs from last year. If anyone knows where they could be found would be very grateful. Thanks, and good luck today.

I'm 99% certain that Turftrax were the only people doing sectional times. I would be amazed if any individual track had the required equipment.

But what a bleeding farce. The supposed home of the greatest racing in the world and we are still waiting for sectional times, incredible :(

Racing for change??
I doubt it.
Keep it rancid, without the public getting to wise to whats going on
Report Roger De Bris April 13, 2010 9:10 AM BST
I find it amazing that we cant have sectional timing in the UK, when its the norm in USA, Australia and all the other big racing countries.
Report Roger De Bris April 13, 2010 9:18 AM BST
Whats even MORE annoying is the Racing UK camera work. You'd think they could show us a side-on shot at even ONE of the furlong markers, but not a sniff in the Guineas and in the Craven as theyre about to hit one, they change cameras!!!

just read this on another forum :-
(I have not got time to watch it at the moment)

If you want to see the future, watch:

Another UK initiative lost to the USA?

You can see from the video how important this can be for integrity and for evidence to resolve disqualifications etc.

The range of punter data available puts Turftrax to shame and the way they go about marketing things to help punters and attract new customers to racing.
USA tracks are actually queing up to put this technology on their tracks and websites. UK is almost completely indifferent. A chance for Flatstats to get in at the start?

its an amazing innovation. No fear of the BHA getting the software installed. Thanks for the Newmarket data Stow. Is all the other AW data from Turftrax pre-2008 available online?

what I found annoying about Turftrax was when TWO all-weather meetings were on the same day they said they could only cover one of them i.e they only had one set of timers. Meaning they missed many all-weather meetings, rendering the whole process incomplete. Problem with Trakus by the time the BHA do something we'll all be half-dead.......

I'm sure the racing for change boys will be right on top of this traxus business as soon as they've attended Miss Haversham's wedding.
Report Roger De Bris April 13, 2010 10:54 AM BST
I think its brilliant they can tell you how many feet each horse actually travelled in the race. Timmy M must be praying they don't ever bring this onto the National Hunt scene!!!
Report Feck N. Eejit April 13, 2010 10:57 AM BST
Agree Roger. Meanwhile we get the time of a race but no one really knows what the fkng distance was.
Report Roger De Bris April 13, 2010 11:13 AM BST
My eyes were opened when Southwell over the jumps announced they'd moved the rails last summer and all race distances were in the region of over a furlong less or shorter, can't remember the exact numbers. But when you see so many races decided in a photo on the jumps/turf with so much cash on the line and we dont even know the exact distance, you start to question your own punting.

For a small consideration, I could solve their problem with the new "online social networking site".

I'll call it Facebook.

The idea of "harnessing music" is not a bad one at all, but the recent release of dates for gigs at racecourses this summer made desperately depressing reading.

Do the powers that be not realise that they are alienating a large portion of their target audience, as well as their existing audience, by concentrating solely on the safe and saccharine options of failed Pop Idol acts?

I lived and punted in the US for many years , and I just don't know how you can start to get to grips with what is unfolding without fractionals . Without doubt , relying on your eye is so often misleading and the shortest way to the poorhouse.

The words, "celebrity," and, "quality," - don't sit comfortably together.

- and, whenever anybody says racing is, "fun," - then I know that they are 'a million' against knowing anything at all about the game.

Perhaps an alternative for us speed figure chaps is to set the going allowances consistent with the prevailing going & adjust most of the race distances so the figures fit.

I used to enjoy doing my own times and with some success, but with the running rails farce, and then movable obstacles, realigned tracks and realigned fences I sacked it and horse racing off. Times were the cornerstone of my methods and without my own times there isn't much point.

Stow, a long time ago when I was young, I took a ruler to timeform course maps and worked out the displacements between start and finish for all distances at all courses. I then wrote a programme to calculate the wind strength and direction, rails shortfall/overshoot and going allowance to give the best fitting speed ratings with respect to form ratings. After all that work the speed ratings equalled the form ratings. What's that old saying about enough rope to hang yourself?
Report Clarke1Nil April 13, 2010 12:32 PM BST
Feck what a waste of time, i've seen the Timeform originals an old bloke had knocked them up on the back of several Capstan packets. It was a nice touch how he added the bushes at Newmarket.

LOL - Timeform maps are sooo behind the times.

even watching ATR's World Racing revue there, sickening all the big white markers across the Australian tracks every 100 metres, and all we get is head on camera angles from Racing UK and ATR, what a waste. All the Classic trials and races and no sectional timing info, wasteful.

Can you remember the fuss some of the trainers kicked up when asked to carry the remote device in the saddle cloth?!!
Report Roger De Bris April 13, 2010 1:50 PM BST
I do Muqbil, some of them wanted to be paid for it, lol, what a bunch of ------. Even all the French Classic trial races there showing there. Why can't ATR show the full race on a review of these big trials some morning? Then when these French horses show up at Royal Ascot and win, everyone's like, what a surprise. Just seems every department in racing lacks someone with a sharp mind to say, here, lets do this, and no questions.
