Hi Ratpack,

Any chance of highlighting the GN SP fiasco in some way, in your capacity as an analyst?

Was not really in a position to see how it developed but a graph showing overrounds from opening show to off would be interesting to see whether it was a case of nothing being pushed out.
Not sure how many shows were on RUK (had a few other things to concentrate on) but will see if there were enough to prove or disprove that.

Just one step close to Industry SPs being returned, which is what they want anyway imo.

Well coupled with the negative publicity from the likes of Kempton could either lead to

a) industry SP's if the big firms claim they are not part of any such practice and that it is on course books
b) further opportunity for exchanges to claim they should be included in SP calculations.
c) review of sample sizes used to calculate SP's.

or

d) forgotten about in two weeks time

in fairness to the on course books, if you had 10/1 dont push it chalked on your board and people (one firm in particuar) were still backing it along with other horses, what would you do?

I do not blame one on course book for this, they can hardly hold a bean these days and given this scenario, we would all have done the same.

Having got a reasonable insight into on course issues through the Rule 4 stuff I fully appreciate the problems some genuine on course bookmakers, who still try to make markets based on opinions, have.

Problem is many of the newer ones are too opportunistic to the detriment of the on course market going forward.

As regards Saturday certainly would not blame anyone for shortening anything they were taking money for just as long as others were being knocked out. Can't have been taking money for everything.

interested to see how the on course guys in the scottish grand national react as the shortening in the ayr gold cup had a similar vein, win only by a lot of books and the ones that lay each way are way below the odds ,the game is changing for the worst imo.
