No 20% premium charge - I find bookies prices are often better in the end. It depends on your circumstances.

currently, unless you are a PC payer you are quite correct, most of the time.

By the end of this afternoon old Alastair may have changed the goalposts somewhat

because the public keep the bastarts afloat, and should be entitled to a bet..

The best prices aren't always on here early on, and in not enough volume.

Even if you put up an order on here at the same prices as the bookmakers, trading parasites will see your bet, jump in front, create an arb and so smash the price up...

One negative about bookies is their lack of integrity. Have a look on the Aussie thread at the thread entitled Tab introduces new bet type - back a dead one It relates to bets being taken antepost on a deceased horse.

Last week, I paid my first visit to a bookies for the first time in five years to waste some time. It was the only place I was going to watch the World Hurdle. Only one thing had changed in all that time: no smoke. Otherwise it was the usual collection of low-lifes (and me). One had Tourette's which he combined with a nice line in flatulence. His mate was drunk. There was the obligatory smelly old woman with one tooth protruding from her upper jaw, gabbling away about the parentage of various jockeys, trainers etc. And, of course, there were the obligatory players of the FOBTs, throwing good money after bad, cursing their luck all the while. What is there left to say about bookmakers?
Report walllace007 March 24, 2010 11:49 AM GMT
Guaranteed odds, 1st past post and e/w or place doubles are my reasons for using them as well as the general camraderie and good atmosphere generated at your local bookmakers..

I popped into a bookies the other day, mainly because I needed the loo.

The place was filled with the usual collection of sad old men, scruffy old women, west indian guys shouting at each other, and refugees from the jobcentre.

I did a quick calculation of the over-round from the upcoming greyhound heat (137%) and wondered why anyone would want to place abet there.
