Penzance Gosden said he never had her right in the Arc. And in Dubai she beat Youmzain much further than in the Arc. She also beat the third horse Cavalryman actually.

Just read it and saw that Sea The Stars won the....
2,000 Guineas The Derby Coral Eclipse Irish Champion Stakes and The Prix De L'Arc De Triomphe
Now, please name the horse that is going to better that this season.
TIA.

I notice that took you 3 minutes to read the form book. Take a little time my friend, cool down and give yourself a break. By the end of this season the whole mixed bag will be a lot clearer and I guarantee you will look at things differently. Just take a little time.

I prefer to think I study the form, TD, and have done for more years than I wish to confess. I don't rely on hype and headlines. STS was clearly the best horse last season but there is as good a chance that he was the best of a bad buch as there is he was a champion. I prefer to wait until the cards have all been played then I can form my own opinion. As things stand the horses STS beat have all been tree like. There is still time for this to change and I have an open mind but I do believe this years 3 y olds will muller the 4 year olds but I can wait until they meet in July and then we will all have a fuller picture. As I said, take some time.

If you think they were tree-like rewatch the Sussex Stakes, Irish Derby and the QEII. ;)
I look forward to having this debate again at the end of the season, if St Nic meets Rip Van Winkle at any point.
Good luck.

OK TD, but remember the horses who finished 2nd in the Sussex, Irish Derby and QE11 never won again, or even did anything, if my memory serves me. The form is not strong but I think it is great you have an opinion and I will be happy to discuss this further.

Agree about the Irish Derby form being poor, but tbh I was never that bigger Fame and Glory fan (put in his place in the Arc, pretty confortably), but the Sussex Stakes form is solid imo. Rip Van Winkle beat Paco Boy (very good horse, group 1 winner) who hasn't run since and Ghanaati (1,000 Guineas winner and Coronation Stakes winner, also set track record at Ascot) and he beat both of them very easily.

I had good bet on RVW in the Sussex because Paco Boy was not a true Gr1 horse at a mile, was beaten by Alexandros when favourite for the Lockinge and, after the Sussex never ran again. Ghanaati was fast but both the Gns and Coronation form wasn't great in the extreme and the Coronation 2nd was absolutely murdered by Goldikova next time. That made RVW a good thing in the Sussex. I think the whole bunch were weak but we will see when they meet the 3 y olds this year. Sadly the STS form keeps falling apart and he could of course only beat what was put in front of him. To be viewed as great though he really should have met and beaten a champion and that has not yet happened. If RVW goes though the season well I could change my mind but I feel that is not going to happen.

I'm not sure how you can say the form has completely fallen apart? There have been loads of winners from all his races and I think you are just trying to be a bit dramatic with your analysis. He also comfortably beat the older generations, so I assume that you think the last couple of generation of horses have been very poor ?
We will only be able to see how good/bad the form is after another season when the likes of Rip Van Winkle have ran a few more times and against the younger horses.
I'm also dissapointed that you clearly didn't enjoy him last season, he was the best I've ever seen and likely to see and he really was a privilege to watch.

your opinion is biased though elisjohn as all you did all season was create threads saying you were laying STS all the time, so you obviously lost money on him a lot.

Brother Mouzone 11 Apr 15:28 If Sea The Stars hadn't had all the races run to suit last season F&G would have beaten it at least five times.
FACT.
It's huge shock to the system, but the STS form just took a knock it can never recover from.
LOL
:D

t d gunner and co, just read back some of this thread, didnt you say we,ll see this yearhow good rvw will be against the younger lot , to see how good sts was, well i might have been correct, sts a champ in a shocking season. christ cavalryman won his first race since his 3rd in the arc, 3 years later. sea the stars was a very good horse , but the 70/80 produced the greats imo.
