Carruthers might be ideal for the race but Batchelor most certainly isn't. He might be a nice bloke but his ride at Aintree was the worst i saw all weekend. I don't think he saw a stride the whole way round....put the poor horse wrong at every single fence. If Carruthers runs in the National i really hope they put a jockey on him because otherwise i'd fear the worst.

It can't be a coincidence that the bloke has been riding for years yet has never ridden in the race. I wouldn't back Mattie to get a horse out the paddock on it's feet at Aintree.

Carrurthers only runs well in small fields...so no chance

Batchelor has a rare ability to set a horse incorrectly at pretty much every fence it jumps. It is an absolute credit to Carruthers' jumping ability that he is able to complete races despite this. There are quite a few NH jockeys who appear to close their eyes a few lengths prior to every fence and hope for the best, but Batchelor is so bad that he actually seems to ride a horse into a bad stride fence after fence. I would be astonished were he to ever finish a National, let alone win one.
