Very high ratings given to kauto and denman, need to be lowered? not just these two? i maintain a view to having a maximum rating of say 170 in the hope that more novice types take there chance sooner to have a go at the older types in hcps? iknow many disagree with this but if denman runs in next years national?

and so what if the top horses get the chance to run in more hcps off 170 they deserve the chance? just no penalty on the official system?

I think there should be a peer-review system built in that is triggered before a big rise is imposed.

For instance, Kauto Star ran his best ever race in the King George.

Now, since French-bred 10-year-olds are not normally still improving, should not the handicapper have wondered whether everything else ran below form for one reason or another?

Madison du Berlais going up after beating a below-par Denman is another example.

Or maybe a damping system: Flying Dancer improves by a stone but is put up only (say) 2/3 of that.

Similarly we see moderate horses going up too much for running behind Group horses.

So the handicapping system is right but its application needs tweaking imo.
