Anybody know how the Tote defines a "favourite"?
Obviously, you can select the "fav" on a placepot/jackpot slip, and I know that if you select a non-runner, your stake is transferred. Just can't find anywhere whether the "favourite" is the SP bookies' favourite or the shortest-priced runner with the Tote at the off.

The Tote and bookmakers have different markets and based on different systems in compiling odds. The TOTE simply ends upwith a bucket of money at the start of a race. It then divides it amongst the runners based on how much of the slice of the bucket was put on each individual horse. Yoy could in theory have a 2/1 shot with the bookies paying 55/1 on the Tote although that wouldn't happen.

the toats bucket has a hole in it
the booki bucket has a black hole innit either way when the sliced bucket is emptied the exchange rate is automatically adjusted by quantative easing measures put in place by the fat controller |

^ That was my line of thinking - why would the Tote not use their shortest-priced runner as the "favourite" for their purposes? After all, the Tote doesn't give a damn what the bookies' odds are.
