Zilch chance - even if we can enjoy watching racing without necessarily having a bet the fact that we are able to bet is our invite in and makes us feel part of it. Without betting the sport would fade away very, very quickly as it can never be a team sport for the audience.

Horse racing was invented for people to gamble . Todays racing would not survive without wagering , but it would carry on for the super rich arabs and breeders .

Yes racing is surviving in Dubai - cos the multi-billionnaire ruler and family own the sport. If anyone thinks horse racing would survive without betting is mad.

pension fund 09 Apr 16:44 Yes racing is thriving in Dubai. How much was that loan that they couldn't seem to pay back ?
An awful lot less than the 178 Billion the UK have to borrow next year

agreed - we only have a 'world' horse racing scene because of gambling...if no betting could occur then the arabs would be the only people with horseracing and IRE/UK horses wouldn't even exist because there would be no racing economy (led by gambling don't forget) to justify ever bothering to breed them.

pension fund 09 Apr 16:52 jmc I don't think the UK is earning £800 a second out of their oil reserves though.
So whats your point?
You do realise it was Dubai World that couldnt repay that debt and the bond has now been paid.

Not the slightest hope of racing surviving without betting. Unlike football where the emotional attachment to a team is the motivation, racing is not a team sport and no one would give a toss what won anything without the fiscal incentives.

It's a shame people get insulted just for asking a question.
I doubt the people doing the insulting would behave like that face to face.
My answer is it would not survive in its present form without funding from gambling, and that funding includes admission prices and yield from picture rights.
Outside a horses' connections, having a bet is what makes most people care who wins or loses and makes them want to watch.

pension fund 09 Apr 17:33 Dubai World ? I wonder who owns that ?
Pension this is getting embarrassing tbh when your trying to be sarcastic at least have the facts Yes its a government owned investment company. The loans it owed money on if they hadnt been bailed out a) their assets of still this year were twice its debt value and the most important one b) Dubai government had given no guarantees so the creditors had made a massive balls up.
Basically alot of the storm was hyped up by media in the west
So again what is your point!
