For a long time I was one of Timmy´s biggest fans, having him up there with Ruby Walsh as one of the best horsemen around, but I cannot remember the last time he had a good days riding.

There was a post on here a few weeks ago (from Hibs1875) arguing that Murphy had lost his bottle, which was met with vitriol from many. I don´t know if he has lost his bottle but it is interesting how many times he keeps his mounts to the wide outside, well out of any trouble, even when there seems no apparent advantage to be gained, and if anything he loses lengths (and possibly all chance) by this tactic. He has done it every time at kempton today and for previous meetings.

I thought it was also interesting that he chose past winner and safe jumper Comply or Die in the National, ahead of The Package, who has arguably a better chance on form.

If he hasn´t lost his bottle I would say he has lost his hunger for the game and is definitely a jockey I avoid these days, especially when backing ew.

He's not called 'Buffalo girls Murphy' for nothing......Murphy was class in his hayday but just seems to be going through the motions now....he is still well supported though so it might just be a case of connections of the horses that he is riding are happy for him to look after a horse by going the safe route round. You can pretty much guarantee that he wont get within 30 feet of the inside rail in the National
