Just dug out a copy of The Sporting Life from 1949 - bought along with some other earlier years, I hasten to add. :)

July 27th 1949 - Masn on the Spot was MG.

I guess that would be Meyrik Good .... who from 1945 to around 1958 produced the 'Good & Betts' Annuals which reviewed the leading stables 2-yr-old from the previous year - with a potrait picture of each horse.

Some task touring the country in thos pre-motorway days, and taking photographs from a tripod.

Mind you, life was obviously a lot slower in those days - viz a viz 'Dad's Army' etc, with far, far, less traffic of course, and often only a couple of meetings per day, -if that.

Man On The Spot just tipped fav in every race , though sometimes 2nd fav if it was 13/2 the field

Don't believe you and Eddie Freemantle knows who you are as well. You come across very bitter to the world, although losing the teletext\Ceefax job must have hit you hard. Do you still live in Peterborough?
