Unusual for a horse to veer so sharply off course. 2 in consecutive races! Check the boys betfair account. This happened a few years ago, when those in the know would lay the clear favourite(the horse miles in the lead) at reverse odds up to 100 to 1 and beyond! I tried to tell Taunton but no one would answer the phone. I also told attheraces but they also didn't happen to mention it. A lot of people lost a lot of money! But maybe the complicated logistics make it better to cover it up????

Replay the races and give me your thoughts.

They say lightning doesn't strike twice in the same place, except it hits the Empire State Building once a week.
There have been some strange results at Taunton over the last few weeks.
I have to agree with you
1. someone made money over two consecutive 'hot-pots' being turned over in such bizarre circumstances. ATR did interview the clerk of the course but he may as well have been a turnip.
2. Why did whatever happened only affect the leading (odds on fav)?
horse.
3 It can't have been the guys in the yellow flak jackets, the horse would have veered away so it was something on the inside of the course (laser pen?)
Although I'm talking thru my pocket I can't understand why there wasn't a stewards announced.

3.00

An interesting novices hurdle which was run at a slow gallop and the favourite made a dramatic exit at the last.

ORGANISATEUR made a winning debut at Newton Abbot and was running an improved race when left clear at the last. He is versatile regards the ground, having won on heavy last time. Next season he is likely to be sent chasing and he can hold his own in that sphere.

Kings Legacy looked like adding to his victory here last time before**ing his jaw and running out at the final flight of hurdles. In future he would benefit from a stronger gallop and not hitting the front too soon. He can still win races.

Stormhoek was entitled to run well but as usual travelled strongly and finished weakly. He is not one to place maximum faith in.

Brandy Butter was not given a hard time and will presumably be better in low-grade handicaps.

The remainder of the field looked moderate.

3.35

This second division was run in a time ten seconds quicker than preceding race. It was the second race in a row where the odds-on favourite ducked out when leading at the last. The first three home held those places throughout.

KATEAL is a light-framed mare who would not take much getting fit. She looked held by the winner when left clear at the last. She is suited by better ground and could win a similar race in the summer.

Johns Gift was sweating beforehand (something he has done in thepast) but kept battling on once ridden. He has the size and scope to make a chaser in time and we surely have not seen the best of him yet.

Whistlejacquet was a useful bumper performer who was behind Kings Legacy here last time. Upped slightly in trip on better ground, he looked like winning before running out at the last. He will want a longer trip in time and also has the size for chasing.

The rest showed limited promise but Monreale will be better once handicapped.

at least they have mentioned the strange occurance

I thought it was odd that it only happened on the hurdle course ... but maybe they'd made their money by then ?:|

If indeed anything devious was going on ....

The device used previously was a loudspeaker ( in electronic terms, a chopper, an amplifier, and a directional guide {A wee satellite dish}).
It is interesting that a lot of people took an interest and deceided to sand at the last fence(on the rails at the inside) compared to the previous races.
I,m not sure of the logistics of reversing a result. Are u?
Report Kriskin April 8, 2010 8:07 PM BST
This was NOT a coincidence. I stated previously an investigation should have been carried out. TV pictures should be examined to see if anything odd was going on

Glad u all won today.
If u lost ure roll on any of these 2 races I believe u will be miffed!
Call the course and see if they are doing anything about it!

very strange re these 2 races and would tend to be erring on suspicous side.both were home and hosed and i guess long ods on to win and hey presto the rest is history

stocks - why did this not affect any other horses? Why the 2 horses that this happened to were hot favs? Because it was 2 identical incidents there must be more to it

Sounds like something in a Dick Francis novel - lasers hidden in binoculars maybe?
