This is a bumper from which plenty of winners should come. Colin McBratney said his SYDNEY DES PICTONS was a "nice prospect" after making a winning debut. Held up, he was brought wide into the straight to take advantage of whatever better ground there was and he really sustained his run from two furlongs out to get up close home. A horse with a nice bit of size that can only improve, he should be one to look forward to.

There's also plenty to like about the well-backed runner-up Samain. Held up off the pace, he made good headway in the straight and quickened well to lead inside the last, but once getting there he just rolled about a little bit on the ground and was unable to cope with the momentum the winner had built up. It was probably due to greenness as much as anything and he'll have no difficulty winning a similar race.

With a very promising run at Limerick behind him, Dont Tell The Boys was entitled to plenty of respect. He travelled supremely well most of the way on the inside rail and got to the front over a furlong out. However, his head carriage was on the high side and inside the final 50 yards he went violently left towards the horse gate and there was little his rider could do. In the end he brought fourth-placed CorribPrincess :( across with him, and it was inevitable that the placings of those two would be reversed in the subsequent Stewards Enquiry. The latter-named mare improved significantly from her debut at Wexford, making good headway from the rear to challenge inside the final quarter-mile until her effort flattened out. She probably would have been fourth anyway, as the third horse lost more ground doing what he did, but she had to be promoted.

Newcomer Sandeel Bay showed plenty of ability for a long way, racing well up with the pace until finding no extra in the straight. The very easy to back Esporao also made a brief move before the straight but couldn't sustain it. Morning price gamble Ebadoun dropped away completely before the straight and was tailed off. The rider reported that he didn't handle the ground and made a noise in running. [JOH]
