For all of the flak that is made against Barney Curley, he's a one off character, loathed and loved by many.
Deep down he has a heart of gold and has to be praised for his fund raising efforts in Africa !

Link: www.dafa.co.uk

Even Sheikh Mohammed gave him £2.5 million from the sale of the Racing Post titles (£10m shared between 4 charities). He had Frankie Dettori, Jamie Spencer and Johnny Murtagh go to Africa to help.

Many jockeys have Barney to thank for their careers, including the above, plus Tom Queally, Paul Maloney & Declan Murphy who he took on after his career ending fall at Haydock to work as head lad.

Just a guess but if sum1 had a bookie determined to have you warned off as a defaulter like whatshisname then a moral soull such as Mr Rubble may intervene to get a stay of execution.

As for Mr Rubble and his supposed hatred of boomakers, well dont you believe it;)

I think you will find out Mr Curley's gripe was with the big 3 or 4 bookmakers that control british racing, not some small time lad in need of a dig out to save his knee caps.

Apparently ended up owing money to the wrong people and Barney squared it.
