Apart from the RP. Also, how do you read bloodlines in relation to their ability to stay a trip ?

graeme looking at pedigree blood lines can give you some guidance but its a risky business unless there's form in the book on any given going

the RP shows sire stats over various ground and distances

*apologies at first i thought you were on about going
Report Cantthinkofaclevername April 5, 2010 4:46 PM BST
You look at the pedigree and guess. After it has won, breeding experts will tell you why it would stay. Before the race, they haven't got a clue.

Quincey - is it just the sire and dam, or don't you check their prognancy also, as well as the grand dam and grand sires ?

Anfield - i was only wondering because there are races that some horses have never ran the distance before mate, such as the grand national.

^ lol i like it

Surprisingly a horse will stay any distance when the money's down.
Report anfieldkings April 5, 2010 4:52 PM BST
usually if i back something that hasn't proved it stays its because it has looked in need of the trip in previous runs, wouldn't be too keen on backing something upped 3 or 4f just because its bloodlines suggest it may like the extra yardage.
Report Dr Crippen April 5, 2010 4:56 PM BST
The distance a horse will stay depends on its ability and the class it is running in.
A high class miler will get a mile and a half if the opposition is weak enough.
Notalota people seem know that.

seem to know that.

why would some people doubt St Nicholas ability to stay 12f, when his sire won over that distance on a few occasions ?
