It's usually called tap water because it comes out of a tap, you're thinking of the water thaey use when you have colon hydrotherapy, that comes out of a pipe.

I wont go into detail but I knew someone who worked for a major uk water company. They did some analysis on bottled water and it transpired that if the bottled water came out of the taps which they would be prosecuted. Thats true
