I was very impressed by Dul Ar An Ol today, watching it backed into 6/1 from 16/1 only to land a great gamble.

It made me wonder if anyone knew of any trainers/owners who you can be confident when they put the money down that the horse is goinng to perform?

Very few and far between..Over the years I cant really remember any misses.

Another from years gone by was A.Aylett.

brian - just cant see owen/black/dascombe bothering with a gamble.
surely the motivation is winning /planning/achieving.cant see owen/black betting - just no point at all - their motivation is surely to be the best to prove they are the best - i.e to win the league.

Are ten yards to start keeping an eye ....... You should soon learn when to back their horses and when not to.

Two hours gone and no-one has mentioned Michael Wigham.
One of many like A E Jones and Barney who withdraw their horses with self certificates when they can't get their money on.

Watch out for Tinimix (A E Jones). Coming soon at a course near you.

Hard to fathom but had a great record when the money was down.

Im not so sure many trainers gamble that much-- some of the smaller ones have to but in all my time involved with racing i find its normally someone else connected to a stable.
Barney Curley would be one exception when he has one off the excuse is the best guide-- so when i look at a barney Curley horse i first think to myself -- Has he got a good excuse like distance - how long sinse its last run - going etc

There's no point in a punter jumping in and backing horses which have been cut from 16-1 into 6-1 because in the long run a loss will follow no matter who the trainer is. Now backing horses at 16-1 which go off at 6-1 is a totally different kettle of fish.
Report sarky April 5, 2010 1:08 PM BST
Paul there are three on my list who I would still follow at the bottom end of the gamble
