As we are less than a week away from the Big One.
lets ask a question of many of the races Experts.
As the race is 4.5 miles and I have been told a few trainers and Jockeys, read this forum can I get a feel from these industry greats how is the best way to ride the Grand National.
Up with the pace or Held up out the back.

The history books of the past have mentioned that it is best to be a Hunter until half way and a racer after that.
Going back to Double Silks race.were the great Hunter Chaser was given the obviously near impossible task of leading all the way.
Although he got only as far as fence 12 before he was beaten.
The best a pace setter has done is since that race is last until.2 out, that being Irish Invader, last year...
The rest of the time, the leader has only got as far as fence 22 before reaching the dreaded 999/1
In the races History there have only been a a very few that led all the way.
So lets look at the last 17 races. to see what you could have done after backing the first jump leader.in a back and Lay policy.

Red Rum one it the most times, so his strategy was probably the best imo!

zil Sunny Bay failed to jump valentines both times and come across a horse that ran as if he had 2 stone in hand, went from evens to 10 after being Bradley hampered at the 16th he then proceeded to just draw away. one of the easiest of winners.

I would guess Lord G would have been no bigger than 1.1 3 out.

So your new systern is advising inrunning punters to lay the front runners in the grand national ?!

In every race that Red Rum participated there would have been a runner being traded at a lot less, in the 1977 Andy Pandy would have been about 3/1 at Beechers 2nd 12 l clear and going great, but it was a great early pace maker was Sebastian.

yes but it is at what price should you lay to do so very early is giving money away dont you think

I need a bigger bank.

I advise that any pace setter that is a big price it is worth a small bet and then offer them at double the stake to lay makijg them a win for nothing if beaten.

in the last 17 races only one would have been unlayable and that was Spot the Difference 2005

The fences are no way as bad as in the past and every pace setter has managed to get to the 8th minimum before making a retreat. and becoming unlayable

Scottish Bank,,Bobbyn,Last flng,,Alcapone, Shogun Will ,Outlier, Millan Deux, and last years Irish Invader would have given you a certain earner all these being layable at well below 50%. in some case a lot less.

Laying previous winners , has been free money for 30 years. A few have got close but not done it. The ones coming in with a good last run shorten the price to become very attractive. There you go lay Mon Mome or Comply or Die whichever is the shortest odds , presumably Mon Mome.

Andy Pandy 1977. boo hoo You've made me cry again. It took me 30 years to get over that, I was only little.

not only that you get a great excitement when Like Chrisp, and Easter Hero davy Jones, just a few, they become odds on in running at least 5 out.there have been many that looked a cert in running but as I say very few win..

Looking through history I guess the horses that attempt the impossible like Chrisp. must go down as glorious GREATS
To carry 12.0 stone and attempt what he did, must make him the real unsong Hero of the race.
