used to go from manchester(where we lived) several times a year over to wetherby races and usually stay at charlie halls at towton for the night (friends of the parents) in the late 60s/early 70s - used to love the horses which always seemed to be doing battle - but memory has dimmed who was who was who and who trained who.
Titus Oates/Supermaster/Clear Cut - who trained these and can you remember any more from the same period?

Was Clear Cut trained by The Benign Bishop, Ken Oliver?

I liked Royal Toss from that era, and Spanish Steps and Royal Relief in the Courage colours.

IF I was asked to choose an equine hero, without a doubt it would be a bold jumping gelding called Supermaster, who was at his peak around 40 years ago around the northern circuits.
I loved to watch his fluid action, first over hurdles and then later in his career over fences with equal dash and assurance.

He swept to victory with a commanding lead at Wetherby, one Boxing Day, emerging from the huge flakes of a growing blizzard to a standing ovation from the waiting crowd.

He won 34 races in all, and it was immensely appropriate that he was to provide his trainer with the 1,000th winner of his career.

Bighorn , Moonlight Escapade .....both trained by Charles Vernon Miller .

Deblins Green , won the Welsh Grand National ......and I remember a horse called Sandwilan , who seemed to run in The Grand National every year ...and did once ridden by Jenny Hembrow .

come to think of it, was Clear Cut trained by Maurice Camacho after Charlie Halls death(his son-in-law) - had a couple of good digs at the massey-ferguson - and what about Super Nova - did that win win the fighting fifth?

I remember Super Nova running as a 3/4yo hurdler around 1974, I think. Also remember Easby Abbey from that era.
