A horse called Northern Flash won its first race at the 67th attempt . It started its career at Ripon on 28/05/1997 in a maiden and 66 races later on 25/08/2004, it won a novice chase at Cartmel.

This is probbaly not the correct answer but it's up there to be beaten.

What about the Horse that Geoff Wragg that was placed in the Derby. Not the longest but surely the most high profile and a great advertisement for Geoff Wragg in his final few years training
