Obviously depends on who turns up on the day. If Auguste Rodin, Piledriver, Westover etc all run then 4-1 in my opinion is skinny.
By:
1 firm go 5/2 but 11/4 across the board now according to Odds Checker.
How much did they take @ 4/1? |
By:
I'd say so. The participation of Auguste Rodin is not a given the downside if he bombs.
By:
I meant "not a given given the downside if Auguste Rodin bombs". I'd lay Auguste Rodin 2/1 or lesser if at least Emily Upjohn and King of Steel are declared; I think Auguste Rodin could end up running in Ireland.

If 5-6 horses who head the mkt in this & a couple more or so
stand their ground this could be a belter. |

With the probable impending soft or worse ground due to precipitation anticipated before and into saturday - the ground is Good to Soft, Soft (in places) at the moment - I can see at least one principal in the betting being an absentee eg Auguste Rodin.

Their can be no doubt that pyledriver and desert crown are coming to win . I cant see them doing it though . I think the ground wont be so bad and rodin will take his chance .Given that I think king of steel price will be very close to what it is so will dabble on the day . apologies for the other thread as i just read tom segal ...

The value in king of steels price comes from Hukum who is a group2 horse , most haven't read into the g1 win plus the rest of his form and think hes a gp1 horse . If it were to come up soft king of steel would still beat him easily , but , Rodin may not run so its prolly time to back king of steel .

Going is currently good to soft with the chance of light showers on Saturday.
Should dry out over the next 3 days. Hopefully be perfect ground cone Saturday. |
By:
Heavy rain forecast for Wednesday night.
By:
You're correct. Not sure how I missed all of that!!!!
By:
Wednesday - rain; Thursday - rain; Saturday - rain. I think the ground will be no better than Soft on race day. Unless one is backing hukum or King If Steel it's prudent to hold-fire until day of race.

Desert Crown n/r due to leg infection.
By:
Why am I not surprised after Desert Crown doesn't turn up for a race in when he had been talked up in Racing Post earlier in the week? ....again!
By:
With the ground near soft, I like the chances of Hukum.
By:
Really disappointed that Desert Crown is not running (again). Thought he was far too big a price.
Of the two three year olds I can not see how King Of Steel turns the form around myself. Westover looks the best priced of the older horses. |

RACECARDS FAST RESULTS TIPS FEATURES FULL RESULTS RACE REPLAYS NRS NEWS MY STABLE GOING NAPS ABC EARLY ENTRIES King Of Steel and Auguste Rodin do battle at Epsom Auguste Rodin and King Of Steel in King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes but Desert Crown is out By Sporting Life 13:45 · THU July 27, 2023 Derby one-two Auguste Rodin and King Of Steel are among 11 runners declared for a star-studded renewal of the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Qipco Stakes at Ascot. Despite the late withdrawal of last year’s Epsom hero Desert Crown, Saturday’s Group One showpiece looks the race of the season so far, such is the depth of the field. Aidan O’Brien’s Auguste Rodin saw off Roger Varian’s King Of Steel by half a length in the premier Classic in early June, with Auguste Rodin subsequently completing the Derby double in Ireland, while King Of Steel dominated the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot. There is little to choose between the pair in the betting ahead of a highly anticipated rematch. Joining them at the head of the market are the Owen Burrows-trained Hukum, a dual winner over the course and distance and too strong for Desert Crown in the Brigadier Gerard at Sandown when last seen, and John and Thady Gosden’s Coronation Cup winner Emily Upjohn. Adam Houghton gets the latest from co-trainer William Muir on defending champion Pyledriver The latter is the only filly in the line-up and will be ridden by Frankie Dettori, who is chasing a record eighth King George success before his planned retirement later this year. It is a measure of the strength of the race that defending champion Pyledriver is only fifth in the betting, despite an impressive return in the Hardwicke Stakes at the Royal meeting. Auguste Rodin is joined by a trio of stablemates in Bolshoi Ballet, Luxembourg and Point Lonsdale. The other hopefuls are Melbourne Cup fourth Deauville Legend (James Ferguson), last year’s Irish Derby and recent Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud scorer Westover (Ralph Beckett) and five-time Group Three winner Hamish (William Haggas). Desert Crown was ruled out due to a leg infection. He was off with an ankle injury for a year following his Epsom triumph and was beaten on his return by Hukum in the Brigadier Gerard at Sandown in May. Sir Michael Stoute’s charge had been working well in the build-up to Ascot but the four-year-old will now be rerouted to next month’s Juddmonte International Stakes at York. Bruce Raymond, racing manager to the colt’s owner Saeed Suhail, said: “Desert Crown doesn’t run, he has got a leg infection. The plan is to go to York, but that is as much as I know.” With 17 millimetres of rain falling at the Berkshire track overnight, the official going description is now soft, good to soft in places. At 11am on Thursday, clerk of the course Chris Stickels said: “At the moment, it remains overcast and we are expecting it to turn a bit nicer later with some sunny spells. “There is a chance of a passing shower – a light shower today and an occasional shower possible on both Friday and Saturday – but we are not talking about much volume of rainfall, so I expect conditions to improve a little, given a breezy and warmer forcecast, with temperatures between 21C and 24C. |

Why am I not surprised after Desert Crown doesn't turn up for a race in when he had been talked up in Racing Post earlier in the week? ....again! Despicable what they get away with. Still a punter shouldn’t be weighing in on a type like this |

By:
Definitely looks like better going judging by the weather which is good news

The mare couldn't take much racing and neither can the colt , doubt he'll be seen again

Early money on Betfair is for Augusts rodin, nearly 3 times as much money as anything else in the market, wonder if it will be a battle between Emily upjohn at the finish, was a very good race for 3yo’s long time ago, last few years the older horses that have done well, how good is that derby form and is it still in top form? Aidan o’brien was raving about the horse.
