galopin des champs heads the betting he is declared for the john durkan this weekend and a win and he will likely shorten for the big one i am also of the opinion that the ryanaire could be where he ends up and too short at this stage anyway at around 3/1 .last years winner a plus tard has questions to answer after his dissapointing run in the betfair chase where he pulled up . protectorat impressed 1st time up in the betfair and looks to have improved but the skeltons had him spot on for that and he was well btn in 3rd in last years gold cup but could get a lot closer this time and needs respecting . many open to improvement and one i like is willie mullins STATTLER who is improving stays well and lightly raced over fences was progressive last season winning at fairyhouse and a grade 3 chase at naas before winning the national hunt chase at the festival by 8l from run wild fred earning an official rating of 164 should improve and stamina not a problem could run in the john durkan at the weekend was usefull over timber but chasing looks more his game imoand can be backed at 20/1 with b365 which looks fair to me . selection STATTLER 20/1 B365 good luck opinions encouraged .
I’ve had a few quid on this foyles quite a while ago now as not really doing much jumps but not sure he’ll be quick enough. Certainly an attractive price if he can step forward. Form at Cheltenham not really worked out but a nice outsider I agree. Best of luck pal

yes harry not the quickest but on the plus side will stay ,just the 3 runs 3 wins over fences and 11 races in all under rules ,open to plenty of improvement ,a bit more exp will help and possibly woulda run in the john durkan over a trip too short on sunday but prob woulda learned a bit running against speedier horses.

Yeah the durkan would of told us more. Definitely a good betting heat this gold cup I’ve not given up on it to try and find a good bet but would of been nice to see him and the favourite for the gold cup

I think any reservation about A Plus Tard equine prowess this season Envoi Allen will be in the picture given same ownership. Maybe he'd be another eg Sizing John ie running in the wrong distance all this time. I do not think he's another Samcro (hyped to the rafters) is very unlikely.

took that 55/65 what was up on here for a tenner envoi allen looks very fair ,got a bit of speeed and got 3m at down royal , go back a year or 2 and this was being hailed as a superstar might have had a few problems but could be back on track and too big at the odds , the thing is you dont have to lay out a lot at the odds and a big run in the k.george and his odds shorten , if they get allaho back then envoi could end up in the gold cup given the question marks surrounding a plus tard .

If the trainer is right about the cause of A Plus Tard's flop last time then he is huge value. If he turned up in the same form as last March he should be 6/4 favourite.

A Plus Tard was matched at 3 here for £21 for the Savills Chase. I think he's more likely than Allaho to see a racecourse again before or at Cheltenham.

Galopin Des Champs is down to take on Fakir D'Oudairies in the rescheduled John Durkan on monday. But, could he take the easier option and head towards Tramore as was with Al Boum Photo?

Tend to be with the OP. I thought Stattler ran a decent trial today, what with giving weight to Minella Indo, who had the running rail to help him late on. Appeared to get outpaced at a crucial stage before staying on. Might not have the class to win a GC, but definitely a chance of being in the places.
GDC is a very exciting horse, but has never really appeared an ideal sort for the Cheltenham Gold Cup to me - shapes as though he has too many gears. That said, the GC isn't as much of a slog as it used to be before the drainage was sorted, and he could be a Kauto Star type, with a winning blend of speed and stamina.
L'Homme Presse has to be respected, but he's a small horse and jumping fences looked like an effort in the King George, so I wouldn't be surprised if Bravemansgame confirmed that form, for all the doubts about him at Cheltenham.
A Plus Tard's reappearance run puts me off him, allied to the fact that many horses fail to go on having won a Gold Cup. Don't dislike Protektorat but think he wants a flatter track ideally.

GDC or A Plus Tard (APT) if he wins next time; Protektorat is a decent handicapper. A serious Gold Cup contender he's definitely not!
A clear round from GDC he'll win esp if APT is half-baked.

I think Stattler is a better betting proposition than Protektorat. What distance did APT beat Minella Indo? Noble Y e a ts is a shockingly anorexic price; Grand National winner in a Gold Cup?

Never a fan of A beat B by x lengths. Then B beat C even further.....Therefore....
Depends if you think Protektorat has improved since last season? Is Minella Indo as good as he was? Did Tramore suit Stattler?

When will you be giving us the answers brandy? hopefully before Cheltenham

think conflated may be too big at 22 on here dont think his limit has been reached yet ,top class form in the book rated 168 and comfortably won the savills last time, an 8yo who has had plenty of exp and seems to be progressing have added him at the 22 on here .no harm in having a couple of strings to your bow at decent prices .

They are not questions that need an answer really, Harry. More rhetorical I suppose.
Impossible123 formed an opinion using the form of last year's Gold Cup to say that Stattler had a better chance than Protektorat because of how close he finished to Minella Indo the other day.
I said that I am not a huge fan of looking at races that way.
Not saying I am right or he is wrong, just the way I look at it.
I then gave those 3 questions to show what else i would prefer to look at when comparing the races/horses.
Impossible may be correct and Protektorat is just a handicapper.

I personally think that Noble **** may be the one, especially after the last run.
The trainer ignores statistics and the established way of doing things. Taking a high class novice to the Grand National whilst still relatively unexposed, before going up into graded chases this year, is definitely not the way it’s usually done, but now Noble **** has done it, there may be more. It’s not like the National fences are real obstacles any more like in the great Red Rum era.
He stays, he jumps, is already high class but is seemingly still improving. Only down sides to me are that he has no decent course form (but if he can jump round Aintree he should surely be okay at Cheltenham) and that an in form A Plus Tard would be very hard for anything to beat. But he has a good chance since, as I say, he is still improving.
If he trumps up fit and well on Gold Cup day he looks very interesting.

Liked Noble Yea's meself after his Aintree win but Ahoy Senor hasn't done the form much good.Well btn in the King George, backed from big prices A/P into 12s but was disappointing as he was on his reappearance @Wetherby.Both those runs against top horses. That Aintree form could well be a bit suspect.

wouldnt worry too much as ahoy senor looks a horse that does best in spring on better ground its a price thing with me noble yates 2nd fav on here around 17/2 well done if ya got big prices ,obviously has a decent chance but look to be a few others with decent chances at bigger odds .
