A good 3yo finished second, beaten a head in 2009, Does anyone remember any decent examples? Realistically, a 3yo gets a 12 LB concession(I think) and I’d imagine it’s worth more finishing 2nd than winning the great voltigeur
Anyone any opinions on it as a leger trial and also the horse I was looking at, New London?

3 year olds can't run it now.

Saw none were declared, just presumed it was lack of thinking outside the box, silly me

3 year olds have the Melrose, winner has a guaranteed entry / win and you're in, to next years Ebor.

And even when they could, with the 3yo allowance of 11lb, they needed a handicap rating of around 114 to get in.

Show me a year they’d have needed 114 to get in pls

That would require the lowest older horse to be 103 which does not seem that unlikely?

Had been looking at too many races 10+ years ago, I see 2019 would’ve been a problem, apologies

I think that Tom Segal a while back suggested that the Ebor should be based on the handicap mark or official rating in terms of order of places allocated rather than on the weight to be carried..

I agree.

It would be a much more interesting race, as a 3yo could then run if they were officially rated 22nd or higher.

But instead the 3yos have been barred from entering and it’s become more like a listed race for older horses with maybe only 10lbs between bottom and top weight.

Indeed, it’s a kind of boring race with ridiculously good prize money now, bit like the stewards cup, you only have to look at the consolation races to see.
