Excuse my naivety, but having worked well this morning, Mr Appleby is seriously considering supplementing into the race.  If said horse is supplemented and then wins, I was wondering what happens to punters' ante post bets placed before the supplementary stage?  He is not in the Betfair Derby market at present, although in some bookies markets with the proviso that it needs to be supplemented.  Do Betfair void the ante post markets and return all stakes should this horse run and win?  After all he's not in their market.  Are punter's' stakes all lost?

In the circumstances described I believe all bets stand.

Yes all bets stand.

Just thinking of all the punters with good priced ante post bets with Betfair (plus bookies I suppose) which, if Nations Pride runs and wins, they never stood a chance.

it's no secret there is a supplementary entry stage - like many big races - anyone making an AP bet should know this.

I think ali is being satirical. I too am frustrated by BF's refusal to add the horse (plus other likely supplementaries).

They can't add him until he's supplemented. He's not in the
race yet.

I wasn't aware a horse had to be officially entered in a race in order to be added to the market

Not being satirical at all, Pete.  Many a good judge on here have placed their hard earned cash already and should Nations Pride be supplemented and win, they lose in a market which is not quoting it.  I guess it is a pitfall on Betfair.  At least some bookies are quoting it with the "needs to be supplemented" proviso.

BF used to add any horse that was potentially a runner. They started refusing a few years ago.

The stupid part is that horses can be in the market as 2yo then removed when not entered, then put back when supp'ed.
It's illogical. They should go back to the old system.

Several horses in the Arc market last year required supplementing and this did not stop Betfair from including them.  And the same applies to the Arc this year.  There are loads in there which have not even been entered (and can't be until supplementary entry day).  But put yourself in Paddy Power/Betfair's shoes:  Instead of being constantly usurped by some wise guy on the exchange offering slightly bigger odds than themselves, you could exclude that horse from the exchange market, then go 6/1 Nation's Pride, which will just about be the biggest price in the village.  I don't think it's right, but that is how it looks to me.

Now that Nations Pride has been added to the market he is 11.0 on here.  This shows what a scam in was not including him in the exchange markets whilst simultaneously trying to lay him at 6/1 on sportsbooks.

To me even 11/1 is skinny; 7/1 just pure greed by bookies, and laughable. I'll definitely lay him on the day for 3 places as I cannot see him being placed.

What price will you be laying at?

Single figure price in the win market:  (8 or 9)
Bearing in mind that Charlie Appleby has regarded him as his best chance for several weeks whenever he has been interviewed.   This has been backed up by the supplement money.  Buick is also in no doubt that he is the best chance they have.  If he stays around the 11.0 mark, I won't be laying him at all and he will be running for me.

Thanks Mark. My question was actually aimed at impossible 123 but your answer is more in line with my own thinking.

I'd lay Nations Pride at 3/1 for a 3 places.

You'll get trade at that price, I think.

He's 2/1 here. A lay all day long, I firmly believe.
