An open renewal of the first Listed race in the UK for the 2yos. Bellarena Lady leads the betting at 9/2 after an easy win at Leicester last time which she was entitled to win after a promising debut in what looks a strong maiden with four winners and two seconds from the seven that have run since. Thunder Love comes out top on ratings after two visually impressive wins on the AW but the likely softer ground may be an issue giving that she was quoted to be better suited by a sounder surface by Rossa Ryan after her debut win. I am going on the assumption that by the time we get Friday we could be racing on soft ground and therefore may see a few non runners and I'm taking a chance that by backing one now that the possible rule 4's will be avoided and could be left with a nice price in a cut up field. I am going to take a chance on ALASKAN JEWEL at 50/1 in the hope that this happens. She made her debut unfancied at 25/1 on the AW at Newcastle getting caught on the line by the Kevin Ryan filly Anadora, racing a little keenly in behind runners. She was then sent off at Ripon where she didn't handle the track at all running no sort of race, not handling the quick undulating ground at Ripon and came home in her own time. Last time out she ran at Beverley on ground officially described as Good To Firm but it was at least Good To Soft and the official going had changed to soft later on the card. She was notably weak in the market having been 11/4 the night before she ended up going off 11.5 on here. She was keen again but saw out her race well pulling 6 and a half lengths clear of the well backed third Bearcardi only going down to a nice looking newcomer of David O'Meara's Hester Prynne. If it comes up soft I think she will enjoy conditions as her previous run, action and pedigree (dam's two wins came on soft ground) and I think she will be able to settle better off what will be a stronger pace than she has been contesting and I think a strongly run 5f will suit and can see her running into the places or better as she's only around 7lbs off the best of these who may be inconvenienced by the going. Gl to all.
