The John Francome Novices' Chase and Drinmore Novice Chase at Newbury (sat) and Fairyhouse (sun) respectively; hotpots are Champ and Samcro respectively - both at 6/4 best price. These races will have a significant bearing on the main events at Cheltenham next March.

Champ was a lucky winner despite the lack of assistance from his jockey. Nevertheless, I was not all too convinced about his fencing and and manner of running, but this longer trip will be a plus for him;7/2 is pretty short enough even for his fans.

Samcro (S) pitched on landing after the 2nd last fence when challenging - hes seemed to be going the better than Fakir D'oudaries (FD) who'd fencing with aplomb throughout. Whether Samcro (S) would have prevailed had he stood up no body knew, but it would probably have been close, and he was giving FD 8lbs despite being a novice; Samcro is 6/1 for The JLT; FD is 6/1 for The Arkle and 14/1 for The JLT.

Champ was not a lucky winner, he would have been an unlucky loser. Has had only two novice chases in his life, both of which he has won and is being denigrated already.

Yes his jumping is currently questionable but lets give him a bit of time before he gets written off.

Can Elliot be serious about Samcro could be better over 3m in The RSA? His owners have probables Battleoverdoyen and Champagne Classic in that race. Also, the lRSA looks an easier race to win as he most likely will meet Champ there.
