No euro runners and not the strongest looking Japan Cup. A lot of the Japanese runners are waiting for the Arima Kinen later next month or going to Hong Kong instead which is a shame.
At the current prices I've backed You Can Smile at 7-1 with WHill. He ran a massive race in the Tenno Sho (Autumn) over an inadequate trip (1m 2f), he's much better over 1m 4f+. He ran a slightly quicker final 3f than Almond Eye but he was too far back to get near her at the finish but was only 0.5 lengths off second. He seems to love Tokyo and his trainer thinks he's much better going left handed. Ticks a lot of boxes for me, I like Wangnerian as well but the price difference swayed my final decision.
Worth noting, Yasuo Tomomichi who trains You Can Smile also has four other horses in the race, which could make for some interesting tactics... or not?!

Lots of rain at Tokyo and more forecast overnight/early tomorrow. The turf track was Soft but they seemed to get through it pretty well today. It's going to be a lottery in the Japan Cup now, hardly any of them have raced on Soft... Euro conditions, but no Euro horse shows up this year?!

I'm hoping she runs well Unc and gives the Japan Oaks form a boost... the Chile race form from her mom is interesting. I'm hoping You Can Smile's stamina kicks into play but whether he handles the conditions is complete guess work... It looks ripe for a big price winner.
All the best.

Added Danburite at 50-1 EW. Kyoto Daishoten (2nd) has been a pretty good trial for this race over the years and his dad Rulership didn't mind Soft/Yielding ground. He's not got an amazing turn of foot (grinder) and the trip is still a bit of a question mark but he's one that should be in a good position near the pace which has been important in a lot of the big races at Tokyo.
