All the usual Ascot 7f suspects entered but it's progressive 3 year old Mojito heading the market @ 6/1.
At the prices the one I'm drawn to is Firmament @ 25/1 e/w.
Been running well in all the big Ascot 7f handicaps for a couple of seasons now and is never far away - was 2nd in this race last year to Librisa Breeze. His consistency means he is probably in the grip of the handicapper but hopefully he can go close again.

I quite like Yattwee at 25/1, should like the trip and softish ground, unexposed too

Lord Glitters is the most intriguing entry for me - new acquisition for O'Meara from France (270,000 Euros at Arqana in July - same source and same owners as Mondialiste) and the only one of his entries jocked up. Bookies not taking any chances though - top price currently 14/1.
You don't often see a flat horse who has had 6 turf races and never run on faster than Good to Soft (although he's also won on the polytrack) - his best effort was actually on the Good To Soft albeit over 10f. Ground looks like it might dry out though - currently GS (Soft in places) on the straight course and I can see very little rain in the forecast between now and Sat plus we know how quickly it dries out there. Obviously we're into October now but I think it could still be proper good ground by Saturday (if the forecast is right, big if admittedly). |

LG is certainly a dark horse - just hope O'Meara still runs Firmament.
 Ground should be perfect. They reduce the width of the track for this race, hence the smaller field size, and it can get quite congested - Librisa Breeze came from an impossible position last year. |

Unlucky Rease - Lord Glitters certainly one to keep an eye on, maybe next years Hunt Cup?
Disappointing run from Firmament, though can't say I fancied the winner in the slightest. |

Thanks uncle, I think the target for Lord Glitters will be the Balmoral Handicap on Champions Day where a bit more give in the ground and an extra furlong should be right up his street theoretically - the deeper the ground the more effective the Whipper progeny seem to be.
In fact the way he was ridden and the drift from his morning price make me think that yesterday was seen primarily as a prep race for the Balmoral (an observation not a criticism - I accept that stuff can happen). The cat is out of the bag now though and best price for Balmoral is 10/1 so I will wait until race day. |
