I like this one a lot along with Minding in the Prince of Wales, and both are 2/1 each.

If memory serves, Order Of St George ran an absolute stinker in last year's Gold Cup but then went on to run well in the Arc. Inclined to forgive him to make amends

The french horse will not get trip if its strongly run.   Got chinned a few times after looking all over the winner at the distance. Talented horse but if it is turned into a real staying contest i could'nt have the french horse at all.

It seems to have changed a bit now. There is slight rain expected but not as much. Stickels, clerk of the course at Ascot: "The ground is very nice at the moment and currently a mixture of good and good to firm. It's a fairly settled forecast until next tuesday and the picture becomes less clear."

No matter what the ground is i couldnt have the french horse over 2mile 4furlongs.  I think over 2 mile he'd be the eachway bet to nothing of the meeting but the trip will surely find him out at this level.

Apart from the ground being a concern, he is a near certainty,...the monkey on his back could also be a factor. But hoping for the best.

I hope you're right. He's clearly the best horse nevertheless the ground would be my number 1 concern.

I don't get this thing about the ground with OOSG. His best run over a shorter distance and certainly his classiest run to date was in last year's Arc. The ground was described as good but as often is the case with French going assessments the actual ground proved faster than the description. That time couldn't have been recorded on anything slower than good to firm ground.

Uncle .. Don't be so dismissive laid off third at or around evens had a fair old wodge on enough to make your knees knock won enough for a crate or two of pom pom. Willies as you know went 3/1 for a short while was a win win good for losing extra special if it had won. You could have done the same.

Yep, I had OoSG at 5/2 will Willies after his Arc (I believe), and at that price it would be foolish and financial imprudent not to lay off stake regardless. But the annoying thing was he knocked out a few of my trebles and accas.

Only question 123 was whether the horse would get there I like 40/50/60/70 pound doubles you only need a few first goodish winners pot mounts up can get bit scary laid enough off at 2.1 rest just under evens not complaining if it had won would have been better might be getting on (horse) could bit of a dog. Mr Gredley said they rode the wrong race only way to have beaten Big O maybe if led on line that was what Ryan was trying to do. Would be pretty certain Coolmore have the very best analysists (probably poor spelling) races are mapped out.

Surely would be a shorter price than that to be retired by the time next year's renewal comes around...

I had Order of St George at 7-2 AP for this so the race was a bit of a sickener. Really should have put up some short-priced lays but didn't. Poor ride by Moore having him so far back in a slowly run race.

Positioning and pace, or lack of, absolutely pivotal in races round that bend at Ascot. I was on the wrong end of poor tactical rides, or what turned out to be poorly drawn horses (on the straight course) all week - Order Of St George, Sixties Groove, Crystal Ocean, City Of Joy, Limato…

This is what makes it that much harder for punters and gives bookies the advantage at R.Ascot. Often the best horse does not win but the horse given the best tactical ride combined with factors such as draw/pace that worked in said horse's favour.
