No thread ... First starting point is GOLDEN SPEAR unlikely to make the cut for the County ... but primed to run here. Likely to win? Well dependent on handicap mark... initial thoughts yes. Have I backed Yes took 5s.
The one I like though is VOSNEE ROMANEE decent odds - trainer who has won it before with EBONY EXPRESS - I did back him for the double but came up short :)
Seems unexposed - likely improver won last time out....
Of the others I do like WILLIAM H BONNEY @ 14/1 his last run can be forgiven

Gone with CHIEFTAINS CHOICE. Upped in class here but appears to have recovered some of his backform following the documented * wind op * and as he is a recent C and D soft ground winner where he was really quite good ( form already franked by the runner up bolting in at Ludlow recently. The 20/1 on offer is just too big with Tom Bellemy pencilled in already to take the ride. Should get in right at the bottom the weights so looks a viable play.
Has to be EW with Martin clouding the issue with his 2 runners.
Race 6 - Leicester 3:40pm. Reportedly good to soft ground. THE WALTHAM-ON-THE-WOLDS HANDICAP HURDLE RACE (CLASS 4) The Stewards held an enquiry into the running and riding of CHIEFTAIN’S CHOICE (IRE), ridden by Trevor Whelan and trained by Kevin Frost, which raced at the rear of the field throughout before staying on under apparent tender handling in the home straight to finish fifth, beaten 9 lengths. They interviewed the rider and the trainer. They also received a report from the Veterinary Officer that a post-race examination of CHIEFTAIN’S CHOICE (IRE), during routine testing failed to reveal any abnormalities. The rider stated his instructions were to drop in last, get the gelding settled and to finish its race off, as it was finishing weakly under front-running tactics in previous starts. Whelan reported at Scales that the gelding had ran too freely and began to gurgle approaching the fourth last hurdle. He further added that he was conscious that it was the gelding’s first run since having a wind operation and he wanted to ensure the gelding finished its race. The trainer confirmed these instructions and added that the gelding had had a hard season on his previous campaign and after a break for a wind operation wanted to see CHIEFTAIN’S CHOICE (IRE) settled and finishing its race and stated that Whelan’s ride had accorded with his instructions. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race the Stewards found the rider in breach of Rule (B)59.2 and the trainer in breach of Rule (C)45.4 and guilty of schooling/conditioning the horse on the racecourse. They suspended the rider for 16 days as follows: 12 to 22 December inclusive and 26 to 29 December 2016 inclusive and fined the trainer £3500. They suspended the horse from running in any race for 40 days from 29 November to 7 January 2017 inclusive.
Race 6 - Newbury 3:10pm Soft heavy in places. BETFRED WISHES YOU A HAPPY NEW YEAR HANDICAP HURDLE RACE (CLASS 2) Kevin Frost, the trainer of CHIEFTAIN’S CHOICE (IRE), placed sixth, reported that the gelding was unsuited by the soft, heavy in places, ground.

Tony Martin took both horses out... all the news...audios that he will run both horses is typical in misleading punters...
WILLIAM H BONNEY for me now left on my shortlist.
Another main favourite taken away from main race - literally every Saturday this has been happening....
How poor....

Chieftains Choice was still 16s after decs with a couple of firms but he still looks to have the right profile for this race to me.
Im not sure how much he will find off the bridle if it comes to a proper battle but without the martin horses in opposition i do not see that many dangers.
Good luck.

Only just looked at the race and landed on Gassini Golf thinking he might be interesting at a decent double figure price - but not at a best price of 9/1.

MAX DO BRAZIL @ 10/1 think this will be the gamble - French bred - lightly raced, Tom Scudamore aboard... not sure what went wrong with him last time... but interesting he is pipes only runner.. could this be a plot?

was surprised freds did not do BOG... in the race... nonetheless expect the novice to be shorter still.
Pipes horse drifting with the faster ground - but still not put off backing him.
Good Luck

Thanks Iris. Hope form carries through Cheltenham and can get something from the 4 days. Only bet in Handicaps, so haven't selected anything as runners not known. Good luck to you.
