Some thoughts on a few that pique my interest.....
Alto Des Motte 20/1 He's two from two at this course and one of those was lto, so he's in decent nick and this seems to be the plan. Has a progressive profile when stepping up in trip, loves soft or heavy ground, so could be tailor made for the race.
Harry Topper 33/1 Now rated 146 after being pulled up in the Welsh National. Nice mark but we have no idea if he retains the same ability; his price is an insult if he does.
Knockanrawley 20/1 I backed him in the Classic Chase at Warwick last time, which was his first race for well over a year. He was running a big race, right up in the vanguard before he faded and finished fifth. I thought that was great run given the absence and was surprised to see he was dropped 3lbs. Always highly thought of by his trainer, he needs a stamina test on soft ground, I'm all over this lad and I hope he runs.
Out Sam 20/1 He was all the rage for the 3mile hcp on Day 1 of last years festival and he ran well for such an inexperienced chaser, finishing 7th off a mark of 139; he runs here off 135. Prior to the festival he looked a potentially smart novice but his progress has stalled somewhat. His first two runs this season were poor but Greatrex was in crap form then, his last two outings have been better, so maybe he is returning to his best, certainly his trainer is. Cheek pieces have helped and this stamina test was earmarked as a possibility, it could be right up his street.
By a mile - id back OUT SAM - he is going to win very soon - not sure he is aimed for this race but reckon he will still be on a good mark. His run last time was very eye catching...if he turns up for this will be half the odds... if not more.
Does anyone know whether he his running in this?

difficult to tell has been lot of rain overnight but looks to subside later today and tomorrow looks ok as does saturday( ie no rain or very minimal) , my guess is soft going, still would think be looking at low weight as going to be a slog round there.

So the max of 18 declared though the weights have gone up 9ib! Interesting for me now is emperor's choice! First time blinkers will love the heavy ground and is back to his last winning mark of 135 and who's only not placed when going description is heavy once! At 25/1 he's my pick in a ultra competitive heat of which only 2 finished in last time the race ran in heavy!

Well done Facts and Feltfair. Was very disappointed with Out Sam... didn't figure at all....
Have to say what can you say about Shotgun Paddy... gets placed in most of these handicaps... doesn't seem to know how to win these days... ? Seems always make a mistake which costs him the race. Backers of him must be tearing their hair out now... well will probably be Midlands National for him next time... worth a each way punt... as you know you will probably get place money with him.
