FRODON redeemed himself in the December Gold cup after hitting a fence hard, and I'm confident that if SAPHIR DE RHEU turns up he will do the same.
He was unusually clumsy to fall in the Hennessey - only 2nd time he has fallen in his career, ... think this horse is better than that - he is sheer class - butnot sure why he doesn't show this on the course more frequently.
But when I look at this race - I actually don't think there are many horses that really have that class edge that he has and if he turns up that 7/1 is a standout bet and will probably halve on the day if not shorter. I haven't seen jockey bookings yet but I do hope Sam is booked.
Fingers crossed he turns up.

I had a bet on Amore Alato on sunday night at 25/1. Around this time last season he ran in an Ascot novice chase, and he was stuffing a very good field (Le Mercury, Thomas Brown, Out Sam, Killala Quay, Junction Fourteen), he was 2 lengths up at the last where he blundered and unseated his jockey. He'd have won had he stayed on his feet, I've always remembered this race. He ran against some decent opposition afterwards without getting his head in front.
He won his first chase on his seasonal debut recently, but strangely the handicapper kept him on 137 and I think he is much beter than this. I hope he turns up, there was talk of him going for the feltham at Kempton next, but they must surely fancy his chances given his mark, 14/1 is the top price available, he is an 8/1 shot if he runs. |

If he turns up Eduard should win this. He is a grade one horse racing of a mark of 151.
Stepping up to 3 miles will definitely help. Nicky Richards rates him up there with Monets Garden. |

What am I missing with this Saphir De Rheu? I don't have a downer on the horse and I'm not saying it won't win, but a lot of posters on here,who's opinions I respect rave about it,particularly in the Hennessy, where some would not hear of defeat. His form last year was less than Impressive and admittedly his earlier form was pretty decent but good enough to be held in such high regard from so many decent Judges?? Not just on here but other people in and around the game have the same opinion
I see him as above average but nowhere near top drawer,which leads me to believe I have him wrong. I'm just asking a question? Anyways, back to Saturday. Fletchers Flyer for me. Rounded off last term with a good win in Ireland after an indifferent season.I thought he was still a bit green early doors last term and relatively lightly raced for an 8 year old. Hoping the best is yet to come |

I don't think most people think he is real top class anymore but he is very well handicapped if he shows his best form - hence people really fancying him for the Hennessey and this race. The stable has been in excellent form as well.
I backed him for the first time in the Hennessey  , but will have a good look at this race once the decs are in. |

I'm with you Giddy. Gave up on SdR a long time ago and just couldnt back him in quality races anymore.

this is as brutal as its gets handicapping wise, will have to see who is declared, it's looking like a gatling gun approach will be needed at this stage though

Couldn't agree more with a couple of selections. Eduard and Go Conquer have it between them. Go Conquer's jumping at Wincanton last season was breathtaking and he will be another big Rooney improver. Eduard is the class horse. Look at the times of their previous Ascot runs. Very similar although Eduards would have been on more churned up ground being the day after.
