Don Cossack might not run in 2017, and even if he does there is considerable doubt he will be as good as this year when he won. Also, he will most probably have one prep race prior to the main event hence his fitness could let him down in the race.

The Don suffered a tendon injury something which would take a good part of a year to heal/recover, sometimes even longer - the only panacea is rest to allow the tendon to heal properly (no rush). Even if so, the rigours ie the take-off and landing, of a competitive steeplechase race could undo any recovery in the process.
The Don has a 'chance' of running in the Gold Cup if his projected comeback race next year is an almighty success otherwise 'sayonara' The Don as alluded to by connections. |
