Love this horse, really gutsy - remember when he won the Ladbroke - jockey threw him over the line... and the horse was willing to go... If there was a horse with tenacity it would be him.

Okay, most will see this horse as an Ascot specialist, but only ran once n his lifetime at Cheltenham and came 3rd in the County Hurdle last year.  I really think he is better and fresher at the beginning of the year and I think he was ring rusty in his last run despite winning and expect further improvement,

Connections want to take the Rooster Booster route with him - although I don't think he is Champion Hurdle winning material unless he wins this over 10L

Of the others MODUS was very interesting behind him, money came for him and although was at the back made a lot of ground up in the last furlong - my guess was that was a prep race for the horse.  He is 12/1 but clearly will be a lot shorter on the day.

Good luck

I agree and have backed accordingly

just noticed sternrubin is in from 25;s
Report Facts November 6, 2016 1:24 PM GMT
Taking on trust King's intention to run him, I think the 6/1 available atm for Winter Escape is generous. Think he'll go shorter during the week if declared.

I'll look at the race again at the 2 day stage for a potential candidate lower in the weights.

What about Leoncavallo at 25/1? Not a bad effort finishing 2nd to Sceau Royal after his holidays. The doubtful runners here would be Hargam (top weight, 11-12), Garde La Victoire (back over fences, I believe), Sceau Royal (X'mas hurdle his next target), Mister Miyagi and Zubayr (both ran (11-12) yesterday). If so, Sternrubin and Adrien Du Pont would be carrying top weight (11-12), Winter Measure (11-9), Ch'Tibello (11-11) and North Hill Harvey (11-8), Modus and Leoncavallo (both 11-7); North Hill Harvey was withdrawn yesterday because of ground, I believe.

Modus (McManus) has been backed all last week and Sternrubin are closely matched on weights, but Leoncavallo is very well handicapped on form though. Unless there is a doubt about the participation of Leoncavallo here I think he can only be shorter than 25/1 nearer race day. Thoughts, anyone?
Report Autocue November 6, 2016 7:32 PM GMT
Big doubt for me with Leoncavallo is that the Triumph form now looks mince.
Report impossible123 November 6, 2016 8:59 PM GMT
Ivanovich Gorbatov is a good ground horse and was beaten by Apple's Jade in the soft at Aintree. Today was his 1st outing for the new season over 20f and not 16f (Triumph Hurdle); my main fear with Leoncavallo is not the Triumph Hurdle form but whether he would run here (betting suggesting otherwise) despite this is the only entry he has for this year.
Report Autocue November 7, 2016 11:58 AM GMT
IG and AJ both rightly attracted a lot of praise last season but AJ beaten by the outsider of four with Elliot saying she'd have no chance in a Champion, and IG wouldn't have won over any trip yesterday and looked a boy in a man's race as well as a busted flush. Leoncavallo has form against Sceau Royal though who looks classy and must have been wrong in the spring.
Report alexmct November 7, 2016 2:04 PM GMT
Leoncavallo runs off 140 I think?  He was trying to give 4lbs and being ridden by a claimer who couldn't claim in his last run against a horse that has since won off 149.  Looks well treated to me.

Gonna do in e/w singles + double up with village vic.

I have looked at this race several times but I just cannot fathom why and how the prices of Winter Measure and Modus (both owned by JP McManus) are 6x and 3x respectively shorter than Leoncavallo who is priced at about 18/1 unless his participation is uncertain; Leoncavallo has the benefit of a race behind Sceau Royal (winner again despite upped 10lbs) whilst this is the 1st for Winter Measure. There is only a 2lb difference in the rating between Sternrubin, Modus and Leoncavallo but the former is conceding 5lbs to them.
Report dan hardcore November 8, 2016 9:50 PM GMT
Leoncavallo is going to be 5lbs well in. Don't think he'll run to the same level he did last time if the ground goes soft, but agree he's too big at 16s.

Leoncavallo is a confirmed runner by Palling today, and he ha two others in the race as well.

If Leoncavallo runs to his juvenile form against Sceau Royal and Adrien Du Pont he would have a favourite's chance especially at Cheltenham as the long run-in will suit him. But I still cannot fathom why Winter Measure (average juvenile form) and Modus (a rather difficult ride) are fancied more than Leoncavallo except for the fact they are owned by JP McManus.

To go with my original selection (Winter Escape), I'm adding The Hare Breath
Report unclepuncle November 12, 2016 6:52 PM GMT
Not a very good renewal and try as I might, with the going now testing, I can't find anything to back but the favourite Winter Escape at 4/1.

Stenrubin as a back to lay in running looks hte only other option.
Report unclepuncle November 12, 2016 10:11 PM GMT
Have played Stenrubin 1pt e/w @ 11/1 and will put up 'in running' lays at 4/1 (win), Evens (place).

A Hare Breath. Very few miles on the clock for an 8YO and I don't think he has been as good as connections thought he would be,as yet
Doubt if he has been straightforward and maybe will all come together tomorrow
Does anyone know if de Boinville is okay?
Report Facts November 13, 2016 12:52 AM GMT
He's broken his arm. Don't know who's up on A Hare Breath now.

Why ?
Report IrisDeBalme November 15, 2016 7:22 AM GMT
Watching few runs of MODUS seems a very awkward horse to win with, having said that will see where he lands at Cheltenham festival.

Ben Pauling thought Hare Breath was his best handicapped horse in the race... another one to follow this season.

Anyway well done Feltfair... and any other winners
Report 1st time poster November 15, 2016 11:43 AM GMT
harebreath a funny one i read what pauling said but it drifted like abarge whilst a stablemate halved in price,so maybe more to come on a haresbreath next outing

strange race for a competitive hurdle 1st 4 miles clear and the 5th who,d lead all the way was still miles clear of the rest, suggests a few in behind wernt giving a hard time
Report impossible123 November 16, 2016 4:31 PM GMT
Very disappointed with the run of Leoncavallo. The ground could have turned too softish for his liking and/or the jockey could not get the best out of him.
Report The Dragon November 16, 2016 7:12 PM GMT
came to win but couldn't find that bit extra , SR was a bit disappointing and faded badly but all in all got a run for our money out the two of them
