Nearly time for this annual mudfest, and I've had a little on Cultram Abbey tonight. He won his last race over a trip of 2m3f which was pretty good considering he is a stayer. The ground was terrible that day which helped him, he loves heavy and there is every chance he will get his ground.

I've no idea if he's being aimed at the race, but trainer, whose having a great season, stated they are stepping him up in trip and only has one entry currently. Price is not brilliant at 16/1, but he's lighly raced and could progress again over this extreme trip, so worth a small interest at this stage for me.

Good luck GI. An interesting angle but it's a massive jump in distance for me.

I do think that despite the £10 rise, Russe Blanc is still of interest @12s. Finished the race off at Warwick in a way that it looked had a lot left. If it remains heavy there won't be many finishers and he's one I'd be confident would complete.

Sure it won't be good ground but I'll wait until a little closer to be more confident of conditions

Half interested in Shotgun Paddy and thought it interesting he was not given an entry for the Haydock trial. However, he looks like being pretty close to top weight.
Report knot in wood February 16, 2016 4:32 PM GMT
had a little ew on SHOTGUN PADDY @ 14-1, lavelle as stated the horse will be aimed at the race(does help) and as been left on the same mark as his excellent welsh grand national run.
Report SOULDANCER February 16, 2016 7:08 PM GMT
WOODFORD COUNTY, 20-1 looks a fair e.w. bet to me. 3rd last year, ran some good races last season and hinted he could improve a bit this season. Improved on last seasons Welsh National run this time, running well to come 5th. Should think he'll turn up again for this.
Report SOULDANCER February 16, 2016 7:18 PM GMT
He is entered Saturday so maybe risky, but I've chanced it.
Report tim6 February 16, 2016 8:07 PM GMT
think portrait king at 20\1 would be a good bet for the Eider

Bit of a leap of faith guessing that the ground is going to be on the heavy side but just to make you all aware the weather forecast for my part of the country (3 miles from Gosforth Park) is to remain dry but cold for at least the next 3 days anyways with just the odd small shower if we're unlucky. If it remains the same for the whole week it will be on the good side of soft, we might get a soft with gd/sft in places or better
Report TheGreatEscape February 22, 2016 12:03 PM GMT
Cork Citizen looks interesting to me, perhaps the step up in trip could bring about improvement for the ex pointer/hunter chaser for David pipe. Thought this was given a nice stable introduction last time, a little outpaced before staying on again. Unexposed this side of the Irish Sea and should handle conditions if on the soft side. General 20/1 each way with the books - thoughts?
Report GI MAC February 22, 2016 2:43 PM GMT
You couldn't back any Pipe runners with any great confidence atm, that would be my main concern, pretty poor form all season by their standards.

Fair point Seathestars RE Ground conditions.

STS......If you can leave them chelt a/post markets alone for a moment, any updates would be appreciatedWink

GI....Evening

Theres one down the bottom that is interesting early doors, more letters than numbers this season, think hes a lot better than that, got his regular 5lb claimer booked on the RP website.Hoping for soft at worse, think he might have a squeak depending on weights/entries,as ever closer look once final decs out.
Report roobuck February 22, 2016 10:03 PM GMT
Agreed, down to last winning mark, and like you say hopefully on its preferred ground.
Report GI MAC February 23, 2016 7:59 AM GMT
Morning. Well it's nearly his time of year to be winning noc. I've seen him run a few times, and he looks like the trip should be no issue.

3rd day in a row it's bone dry but freezing cold with a frost this morning, blue skies everywhere i look gorgeous few days if thats of any help. Weatherman says it will be 5-6 today in the car it says 1c at 8am

Funny, my eye keeps getting drawn to Billy Cash too and for no obvious reason.

Getting the negatives out of the way first;he can be very sticky over the first few fences but seems to be a sound enough jumper afterwards. He hasnt cut the mustard in 3 attempts at a class 2 chase (though he fell at the 2nd in the rehearsal and prob found 3m on good ground in the Grimthorpe too much of a speed test in first time pieces which have since been disposed of) Also, the stable dont appear to be in any form and neither does the horse BUT he did win last season after a 60 odd day break and actually if you look at his latest run at Haydock, although tailed off he actually finishes his race off with a bit of a flourish!!
Positives. Well his win in last seasons Tim Moloney was pretty impressive and ground conditions should be similar come Saturday - not too fast, not too testing. Locally trained, locally owned so presumably this has been the target all season and as mentioned earlier, back to a 1lb off his last winning mark. Smaller stables have also fared well in recent seasons.

I think all in all he is an interesting outsider at a working mans price - Im sold!

Lost interest in Russe Blanc on the better ground.

But now a 'proper' jockey has seemingly been booked for Portrait King.....
Report onthejim February 23, 2016 2:45 PM GMT
24 left in , what is max no of runners allowed?
Report Facts February 23, 2016 3:19 PM GMT
I've already backed Russe Blanc.
Hopefully ground will still be soft enough( assuming it runs !)
Report SOULDANCER February 23, 2016 5:02 PM GMT
Maximum field 18 last year, probably same this year.
Report nocturnal February 24, 2016 1:11 AM GMT
"Johnny"......needs 3 to come out,he will have a lovely racing weight if the top one stays in,and he runs.

Thanks STS

Mac, although I agree on the whole team pipe have not exactly been setting the world alight this season there has been a few signs of encouragement of late , four winners and some placed over the past week or so. I'm hopefull and willing to chance the 20/1 each way.
Report GI MAC February 26, 2016 4:44 PM GMT
Indeed, maybe he's turned a corner. 17 runners, so 4 places for your each way, Good luck.

Currently soft, hoping it does not dry out too much for mine. There's another I'm warming to, so I think I'll be adding another at some point.
Report SOULDANCER February 26, 2016 7:01 PM GMT
Was hoping ROCKING BLUES wouldn't turn up, but have to bet it to win at 9's. Ben Linfoot tipped it and if Pricewise does doubt we'll see that price in the morning.
Report betilyerded February 27, 2016 8:30 AM GMT
William Money gets the curse of Pricewise.

Lets hope he's right today.
Report sintonian February 27, 2016 8:50 AM GMT
Shotgun Paddy has ended up topweight which always looked likely. Not sure the yard is back from their horror spell last season, fully yet either.

Betting small stakes on 3 horses, Rocking Blues, last years winner Malborugh and Summery Justice. Feel's like a complete guess-up tbh but all 10/1 +
Report nocturnal February 27, 2016 9:35 AM GMT
Pricewised.......hoping he would drift towards race time, seems unlikely now.

Betil.....summed him up well, lets hope he can put a clear round in,the drying ground should help, his Haydock form gives him every chance, looked like he got there too early that day, stuck on really well.Good record this time of year, and I see he runs in the black and white of the toon armyWink

Another short list of six but backed Mysteree and Ballyculla each way.
Report IrisDeBalme February 27, 2016 12:36 PM GMT
BARACULLA for me - shame price wise picked it - but that stable doing well - and trainer seem confident if not bullish with his chances....

The other PORTRAIT KING @ 14s is the cover

Good Luck!
Report Steamship February 27, 2016 2:13 PM GMT
I respect Ballyculla but think Woodford County is the one. Milborough to go close to repeating last years success

well done winners

shotgun paddy ran well no complaints just run into one.

Well done Souldancer. A good shout. It was nearly a bet for me, but convinced myself against it !

Well done too sintonian

Report sintonian February 27, 2016 9:22 PM GMT
Shotgun Paddy definitely ran into one there. He'll go a couple of pounds for that effort too and he was already in the grip of the handicapper.
Report SOULDANCER February 27, 2016 10:01 PM GMT
Cheers lads, think he was 20's or 25's when I first looked at him. Convinced myself he wouldn't run, missed opportunity really. There's so much to consider ante-post, miss a clue and the good work counts for nothing. Made a profit so can't grumble.
