Coneygree out for season

That's not factually correct, what is being reported is Coneygree season in the balance after injury blow.

Not overly impressed with the Bradstock's communication this is the second time this season they have issued an upbeat message about Coneygree and then a day later announced a setback ruling him out of an intended race target (Hennessy and King George).

It does go to show how brilliant Nicholls, Henderson and Mullins are at avoiding minor setbacks getting their stars to track.

To be fair those trainers have plenty of experience of getting their stars to track because they have plenty of them and they have plenty of them because they are the best trainers. The Bradstock's may be lovely people but they are an outfit who were blessed with a special one. How much of that special one becoming special was a result of them is very much open to question.

Storm not too sure about Henderson avoiding minor setbacks, he has had more than most in last 2 seasons.

Eternaloptimist, what a slight on the Bradstocks. As Penzance says, their decision to run in the GC was brave and would almost certainly have been taken by few others. They also had him spot on whenever he ran. And as for Henderson getting his starts to the track.............
I do, however, wonder if they have been too keen to get Coneygree running again. It seems he hasn't done any real work since pulling out of the Hennessy, yet they were still trying to run on Boxing Day. My old trainer used to say "for every day's work you miss, it takes two days to get back the lost fitness". Yet they seemed to want to press on regardless.

I've been complimentary about their decision last year cyclops. Credit where credit was due but I don't think they've handled him much like a gold cup winner this season.

They obviously know about horses,and they have done a fine job with Coney.
But is it possible that now the horse is high profile,they may be struggling with the pressure of having such a horse,plus the media and all that surrounds having a goodun??
They certainly would not be used to such pressure and attention I would think.

I don't see how that would affect their training of the horse, even if it affects their reaction to the press.

How many other top class horses have they done that with GI MAC? None. The sun shines on a dogs back some days. Nearly any other trainer could have done what they have done. They haven't been able to do what many other trainers have done. Which isn't to say they don't deserve credit for last season and doesn't preclude criticism of any failings this season.
