No thread - here goes

Jollys Cracked it - Shame the 9s went this morning... but has been continuing to shorten for about a week where he was 14s, so probably more likely to run.  Last time out jockey left it a bit late and the surge was not good enough, I couldn't tell it was his fitness but worth another try as this horse has a great deal of potential, especially as his record at Ascot reads 311.

Not sure Winner massagot will make the cut (Pos 40 - not sure penalty applied for his last win) but as usual real competitive handicap to look forward too this weekend.

5 day decs tomorrow.  Good Luck

Jolly's Cracked is fairly interesting but I can't see it being much shorter than 8/1 on Saturday morning.
A few intriguing Irish entries (most of which probably won't be declared Cry)so I'll wait and see what's running before playing.

I haven't started this race yet but Diamond King was always expected to get to a very high level by many in the game. The change of scenery will certainly do him no harm and Elliott has done well very well here in the past few years.

Report SOULDANCER December 14, 2015 7:08 PM GMT
Sternhrubin for me, can't see why he wouldn't run here. Slick hurdler, only gone up 6lb for last win, track should suit, trainer in form, improver.

I like the look of Hurricane Hollow. I think this is an improving animal which could be well handicapped.

One stands out to me as being a typical Schweppes horse. Vercingetorix. I am not sure that he will come over but his flat form makes for interesting reading.
Report knot in wood December 15, 2015 2:40 PM GMT
more hope than confidence had a little ew bet on ZARIB,adequate reappearance behind irving at wincanton and 27lb and 14lb better off with lil's rockefeller and sternhrubin for a 3/4l defeat at ascot last season.

good luck everyone.

KIW.....Agree,on a couple bits form he,s thrown in,trainer has learned from the master, eyecatching return, ran really well at the festival,he tanked through that race, only giving way after the last.Settled much better at Wincanton, especially early on when there was no pace, just wondering if they will reach for headgear?,plenty of scope off 133.
Report GI MAC December 15, 2015 6:28 PM GMT
Zarib has a good chance. I've backed a couple in this already, Jollys Cracked It, plus Vicenzo Mio. JCI has been targeted at the race and has an outstanding chance imo, plenty money for it over the past few days. VM, is a bit of a punt, no idea if it runs, trainer thinks he's well handicapped and seems to be getting better with every run, big price at 25/1, as low as 16/1 with lards.
Report IrisDeBalme December 15, 2015 7:48 PM GMT
5/1 joint favs ??? In a real competitive race like the Ladbroke? Bookies thinking we are mugs as usual. False prices and ante post week in week out... same thing - as usual these will drift on Saturday.

Totally agree IrisD. When I see this it makes me wonder if any of the forumites will take the 5s? Defo 7/1 the field Sat morning. The bookies have to stop taking the p*** out of us.

Im all in on Jollys Cracked It and managed to snaffle the early 14's as it was earmarked as his target in October but his price is now ridicularse and will not be that on saturday.

Regarding Hurricane Hollow and Zarib, the following makes interesting reading from the Dan Skelton RP stable tour October 27th.

Hurricane Hollow
RPR 140h, OR 139h Didn’t quite stay when we stepped him up in trip to 2m4f for the Totepool Silver Trophy, when he nearly got there at the last. He’ll drop back in trip now and we’ll go fresh to the Ladbroke; we’ll keep him to those fast-run, valuable 2m handicaps for now but maybe when he’s older he’ll get 2m4f.

Zarib
We probably rode him a bit too positively at Cheltenham last year when he more or less led over the last in the Fred Winter, and he was over the top on his last run at Ascot. Hopefully he starts in the Elite Hurdle and I think this season there’s a really competitive handicap in him. He travels well and his jumping appears to have got better at home.

I also always take a good look at Gordon Elliots runners, his Diamond King got the "Dark Horse" slot with him saying.
Diamond King
7g King’s Theatre - Georgia On My Mind Diana Whateley 1/131/7P-
RPR 136h, OR 130h
"He won bumpers for Donald McCain and a couple of novice hurdles and looks a very nice horse. He could be well handicapped on some of his best form and will start off in a handicap hurdle in the next few weeks, maybe at the Showcase meeting at Cheltenham."

My concern would be the mark of 144 he has been given compared to his Irish mark of 130 (though he has run second since then). Davy Russell booked to ride too. I wouldnt rule out a good run from his outsider if he gets in, Hostile Fire.

He had this to say about him.
"We really fancied him in the Fred Winter last March and he ran very well but just didn’t jump great and you really have to ping everything in a race like that. We’ve given him a wind operation and he seems to be in good form. He might go to Down Royal for the WKD Hurdle – his owner is a sponsor there."

Has admittedly been disappointing on the face of it but I think he could leave his form behind on better going.

It is going to be fiercely competitive and good luck to anyone finding the winner!!

JCI now generally 4/1 and 7/2 in places.Doubt it will now go out to 8/1 come race time..
Can't see it winning myself.
Report deepingfox December 16, 2015 10:41 PM GMT
There are numerous horses with very good form for a race like this including the market leaders.  However, the one I like, if he makes the final decs is NOBLE INN.  Came back from break, winning on the bridle, with Ruby "pulling a train" he was in such good form.

If he makes the journey and the decs, I would prefer him at his place in the market, to any of those above him.

Never keen when the trainer has two entered,he,s kept the other one for better ground races recently, hoping skelton junior on Zarib, think he has a soft spot for this race in particular, willows saviour his first big winner solo, and shelford ran well last year.

Evening GI
Trust your well, can,t see the love for JCI,excellent course record, presumably they think he,s got plenty in the locker,VM is interesting, his early french form with art mauresque reads well re his current mark, had the 7lb off last couple runs, presumably same saturday.Need the decs, the other one that caught the eye in the sandown race was pfn Some Plan, only had the one run switched from the TG yard, tongue tied/hood 1st time that day, travelled like the winner until fading between the last two flights,if he did need it,another on a dangerous mark.
Currently soft, ground likely to be churned up by the time they get to this race, could suit a real mudlark, which might be a negative for Zarib, being 4 year old,we will see.

Have to respect the form of the Fry yard but on form I dont see why JCI it as short as this ?! My shortlist is Zarib, Sternrubin, Diamond King and Sort It Out.  Will be on whoever Venetia declares in the Silver Cup

I personally dont understand the price on JCI now either. He must be doing something special at home as he has been consistently cut over the past 10 days.

Early prices through from Hills suggest Diamond King a NR along with the 2 top horses which means a 4lb weight rise.
Report PJay December 17, 2015 11:25 AM GMT
Diamond King is indeed a NR.

I agree that Elliot has a great record in this but think this horse looks poor IDB....giving 2lb to Zarib who has excellent form and from another yard that does well in this....Ive backed Zarib at 20/1 and 16/1 due to eyecatching form. Bearing in mind Zarib is off 133 here....First hurdle run he beat Jalingo who has won and placed every start since and is rated 134, followed up by running 3rd beaten 12l in receipt of 3lb to Peace and Co (159) and Karezak (150), then destroyed a poor field, then beaten 6l in the Fred WInter off this mark, then raced at Ascot trying to give 8lb to the good 6l winner Lil Rockerfeller and 13lb to the runner up Sternrubin only a 3 1/2 lengths ahead. Seasonal reappearance was a good third to Irving getting lumps weight admittedly

Well done to winners, got JCI completely wrong, travelled really well, and looked all over the outright winner after the last.Zarib plugged on into 6th never nearer,Some Plan improved again, will keep an eye on both. The time,6 secs outside standard, matches the visual impression that they went a real good gallop, time will tell us how strong the form is,initial thoughts are it could be very strong.Yanworth on the friday was 10.8 secs outside standard, not a science exactly, but gives a few clues for later in the season.

Stable form so important at the moment. Hobbs 1-2-3-dh from 4 runners in competitive races .Skelton going well but not quite as well as Hobbs. Meanwhile Henderson's grand total from the weekend was third in a novice hurdle on Friday. Both chasers out of the money yet again. How anyone still backs his chasers is beyond me.
