Irish Cavalier at 12's for me.
Report Ibrahima Sonko October 26, 2015 5:15 PM GMT
Me too at those prices. Many clouds looks a decent price too, considering he is most likely to run.
Report Vbear2 October 26, 2015 6:16 PM GMT
Going to depend on the going, if it's soft I'd fancy menorah e/w at 8's first time out is the only time to catch him respect for Holywell too if it's a bit quicker

Hollywell for me.
Report ACStafford October 27, 2015 12:17 AM GMT
Oops. Just backed Menorah forgetting about the penalties. Should still go well, but giving 10lbs to Dynaste will probably prove too much, though I see that one is also entered at Down Royal. Pipe also has Ballynagour in this as well as the hurdle race. Which one is likely to run here? Dynaste looks a fair price at 5/1 off 11st, if he's a runner.

Colin Tizzard on Cue Card - "The intention is to go to Wetherby with Cue Card," he said. "He had a whizz around Wincanton last weekend and seems in very good form so we are looking forward to it.

"We worked four horses around Wincanton, including a couple of 130-rated horses, and he was far, far superior to them."

Cue Card's last run came in the Punchestown Gold Cup, where he was a creditable fourth, again behind Don Cossack, though Tizzard feels he will be a stronger force this campaign.

He added: "I thought his performances at Aintree and Punchestown were encouraging. He was obviously struggling with a trapped epiglottis before that and we think he is much better this season, although we have to wait until he runs.

"We are hopeful but we will let him do the talking on Saturday."

David Pipe says both Ballynagour & Dynaste will run in the Charlie Hall.
Report IrisDeBalme October 28, 2015 9:05 PM GMT
I backed CUE CARD for the most of last season thinking he would win the Gold Cup and the way things unfolded was quite disappointing ... as a result have serious reservations about this horse this season... even before he got injured he seemed a bit off the boil.. disappointed more often than what his class suggests...

But I have backed him for the Charlie Hall earlier this week but heart not my head...

But I'm a bit surprised he is challenging for favouritism... that is plain silly ... based on last seasons form don't think he is a certain winner as market suggests. He won the Betfair Chase with Dynaste second impressively ... but he lost his subsequent races by a large margin before he had his setback... that is the main concern... there has to be an element of leap of faith here, and wouldn't get too carried away with his price contracting.
Report racingguru October 28, 2015 11:03 PM GMT
Think he'll drift a bit now that Dynaste and Bally are likely to run. Most of the price contracting I would think was due to the poss that it may be a 6-7 runner race.

Looks like a strong renewal. I always feel with this race because it's early in the season a lot of the horses just aren't prepped to win- so you are chancing your arm so bit. So if Cue Card is primed that already gives him an edge over a lot of the opposition.

Dynaste is the really disappointing one- has never delivered on his early promise.
Report shockster October 29, 2015 9:33 AM GMT
Dynaste never delivered????? Has won a Ryanair, 2nd in Betfair Bowl, 2nd in last years King George. 3rd in the Cotswald Chase behind Many Clouds was a bit disappointing on the face of it, but with hindsight not that bad and now 10lb better off for a length and a half.  I'd say he's delivered overall and nobody would be disappointed to own an horse like him.  Yes, maybe could've won more but hardly been out of the frame.  Everything in his favour here.  Race fit, soft ground, minimum weight adds up to a decent bet IMO.
Report sintonian October 29, 2015 8:52 PM GMT
If either Cue Card or Dynaste run to near their best then receiving between 4 - 10lb from the rest they'll be hard to beat.

dynaste is of them whose achieved plenty on his CV when you roll it out but just isnt a superstar, yet we all love to own one like him, think is what hes getting at

very difficult race, wonder if the traders on monday realised cue card was getting in here penalty free,
Report GI MAC October 30, 2015 7:09 AM GMT
Personally I couldn't have Dynaste on my mind for this or any race at the moment. He was injured towards the end of last season forcing him to miss Cheltenham, his comeback race in France was woeful. I'm not convinced he is anywhere near his best, which he will need to be to win this. Another worrying thing is the trainer form.
Report racingguru October 30, 2015 10:50 AM GMT
7 declared - Ballynagour, Cue Card, Dynaste, Holywell, Many Clouds, Menorah and Sam Winner.

Mnay Clouds @ 6/1 looks the call to me - great first time out record and no isuses with the track, going or distance.
Report Ibrahima Sonko October 30, 2015 4:00 PM GMT
Also if you think he ran below par in the Gold Cup he might just be far too good for these.
Report shockster October 30, 2015 6:03 PM GMT
I'll be mighty surprised if any of the bottom 3 don't win. Big weight differences. Made my preference clear for Dynaste.

Yes he's obviously a top-class horse, but just don't think he's done justice to his ability. This is a horse that has threatened to win King George's, threatened to win big races but hasn't quite delivered.

Yes he's won a Ryanair chase but do you think Conti is a more talented horse? Of course not. Yet that horse has won two king georges to Dynaste's none.
Report the bloob October 30, 2015 9:35 PM GMT
please excuse my stupidity, I'm more of a flat racing follower, but why are Dynaste and Cue Card getting weight?
Report Ibrahima Sonko October 30, 2015 9:54 PM GMT
not won a grade 1 race in the last season i think.
Report the bloob October 30, 2015 10:01 PM GMT
ah, I see, I suppose it's unusual to have a grade 2 of such quality
Report ACStafford October 31, 2015 12:11 AM GMT
10lb penalty for a class 1 win, 6lb for class 2, 4lb for class 3.

Yes he's won a Ryanair chase but do you think Conti is a more talented horse? Of course not.

Can't have that. Conti is a far better horse. But Dynaste is the best in at the weights here in my opinion, if retaining his ability, something that I don't believe Cue Card does.

Many Clouds has a great record fto, but this is his first run since the National and it remains to be seen what mark that has left on him. Ballynagour can't be ruled out at the weights but there's other I prefer. Holywell doesn't turn up until March and Sam Winner would struggle receiving weight, never mind giving.

Menorah is interesting. He was impressive in this last year when Hobbs was flying, as he is now, and I do fear him, but giving 10lbs to Dynaste should prove too much I think and I expect him to follow Dynaste home.

fair enough lewisham i just think he is highly tried horse who has just been found wanting ability wise but i still respect him, he is what he is and no matter how you cut it, conti is a top class chaser and to run him so close is no bad thing, he has maybe just been too highly tried, today represents a decent opportunity for his ability and you could argue it will be disappointing if he couldn't at least go close today
Report tim6 October 31, 2015 2:33 PM GMT
would prefer cue card today think Dynaste has had so many chances to go on but there's something missing
Report shockster October 31, 2015 5:48 PM GMT
Well done to Cue Card beating my fancy Dynaste and Ballynagour.  As mentioned above, the race was dominated by the bottom 3 with no penalty.  Maybe race conditions of this need looking at.  just a thought, but very good race today and thought Sam Winner ran really well.
Report IrisDeBalme October 31, 2015 10:18 PM GMT
Interesting how Ballynagour so close to Dynaste at the finish... considering Dynaste had a run in France... Cue Card back to his best which is great, quite intrigued to see how he unfolds against the new brigade.
