The 7/1 favourite Basem is a lovely horse who has won his last two races and is beautifully bred (full brother to Farrh). However as much as he is easily the most promising horse in the race I am worried about the track. His two recent wins have come at Sandown a stiff galloping track with an uphill finish. His only two defeats have come on tracks with undulations and tight bends so Goodwood may not play to his strengths? But for that 7/1 isn't actually a bad price and with a good draw I could see him going off 4/1 - I may even have a small stakes saver on him in case his class see's him through.
I am also quite keen on the Michael Stoute runner Munaaser who was runner up to Basem last time and at 16/1 isn't a bad price but Stoute is having a rubbish year by his standards and his horses never seem to run two races alike, and the one I really fancy is an ex Stoute horse who is now with the excellent David O'Meara. Russian Realm is the horse and is available at 33/1 with Bet Victor. He won at Goodwood last year and has also won at Salisbury so the track should be perfect. I remember spotting him earlier in the season when he ran an eyecatching race at Ascot behind Specualtive Bid - I thought then he might be being primed for the Royal Hunt Cup but maybe this race was the plan all along. O'Meara is in amazing form as well and I can see it going off much shorter - assuming it runs of course. |

I'm in the 'Bronze Angel for later in the season '
I must own a piece of Russian Rhythm, the number of times I've convinced myself that ' this is the race' And do you know what ? I'm thinking the same for Fridays race !! So definitely high on the shortlist . I also like like Basem. He did me a huge favour last time out. He looks a class act. On the list. |

Yes Russian Realm originally with Stoute... I think he has loads of potential but expectation too but doesn't seem to deliver... no doubt if he is declared or gets in he will be much shorter... but OMeara has quite a few runners in this so not sure whether its a stab in the dark, well unless Tudhope is on him would indicate is chances ...

Handicapper certainly hasn't released his grip !
Has had 16 races, only won twice. Last win was May of last year. Was put up to a rating of 96 Has had 9 races since, with only two place finishes in the first four. His rating is now 97!? |

Tempted to add DONCHAA @20/1 - ran a good race Saturday and trainer had a winner today... does anyone know if he is turning up for this?
|
|
By:
Russian Realm not running - not sure if it was scratched or balloted out.

Bit of a relief for me really !
Basem is the bet. |

Taken the 25s So Beloved...might have been the pace lto when the front runners seems to stay there and with him not getting a clear run..very impressive before that..tudhope was on 4 and chose this..hope trainer works his magic once again

Bronze Angel, beaten 4 times at Goodwood. He's a Cambs winner, Gosdens Pipedeamer was the only Cambs winner to have won at Goodwood.[lots of well backed Goodwood winners failed in the race].
Basem, won 3 races at Sandown which is uphill, this is downhill. The way things are going these days nothing would surprise me.!! |

he was 7th in the race last year and only 2 lengths behind it was a blanket finish really from 2nd pos onwards... he was drawn wide then and it was his undoing, he is drawn wide again, so its a case of whether he is on the right side or not, im concerned but not put off.
|
|
By:
He's out in the car park again..its not a straight mile....
|
|
By:
last 15 years 5 horses have won from the car park stalls... you either need to be drawn very low or very high... 1-8 or 16-22 is the general pattern ... Only Wentworth was the only horse to defy this stat in the last 15 runnings.
|

By:
Iris, some sites show the old draw, dont forget it was changed a fewyears back to horselowon the inside..i have the last ten year draws as racing post 5.13.8.1.7.15,1,1,5,3 the two winners from wide were Wentworth and Laa Rayb who both got charmed runs from out wide
|

By:
Didn't realise that, well if that's the case ill look low as I have one high, one middle ... will do my research...
|
|
By:
Have backed Jacob Black decent draw, but a reserve lol will have to have another look.
|
|
By:
lot of fancied ones drawn in double figures
|
|
By:
when your looking for a horse that's either 4 or 5 year old, low eight under 9st 3 and drawn low...
MUNASSER JACOB BLACK SO BELOVED MERRY ME So with 2 reserves and unlikely to get in, that leaves you with either MUNASSER and SO BELOVED for those drawn low |

Very taken with Baltic Knights run last time, running consistantly well in group1's. At 33\1 I think he is excellent each way value with 5 places, I do think he will go close

Iris
Pricewise has tipped Donchaa. Enough to put you off imo. ![]() |

Bollox backed Donchaa this afternoon at 16s
|

Will back Gm Hopkins again, done me big favour at Ascot.
|
|
By:
Yeah Facts it is a bit of a put off... as a rule of thumb I don't back horses he tips - even if they win ... but got DONNCHA at 20s so wont go in again... but really tough race... I would have preferred DONNCHA to be a few stalls lower... perfect age and weight and really respect the trainer... the jockey did me a few favours this season ... its a pretty standout bet really...
I just backed him and Bronze Angel.. (which I am hopeful for a place) - I think ill leave it at that... I want to save money for the Stewards Cup. :) |
|
By:
Yep, jockey has been aboard 3 of the horses wins ( and a neck 2nd).and both horse and jockey are on top form.

My brain turned too mush looking at this race,
, so many with chances and a proper blanket finish most likely, I would have too ignore Chil The kites last effort and he probably becomes the selection, Ocean Tempest should be monitored , The Rectifier does not set the pulse racing but not out of it?, I thought Two For Two did ok last year(course form) and looks the more solid place option. |
|
By:
I think you are right Metro with Ocean Tempest ... he ran in the Lincoln last time after running in Meydan... he faded, but he did the same thing last year and won the Lincoln at 33s...
... so yes second run out might see a significant improvement... so wouldn't put anyone off him. |

Wow - zilzal !! Very well done. Great AP punt
![]() Iris - You mentioned it ( low draw choice) - did you back it ? |
|
By:
I was tempted as he was 14s at the time - but thought id stick to the 2 ... but yeah should have that low draw factor will wait for the draw next year before looking at this race !
But Well done Zilzal you deserve that! |

By:
Cheers Guys, nice when it comes off
|

So Beloved tested positive and disqualified. Bronze Angel awarded the race.

Belgian Bill I should say. Not Bronze Angel.
