sat here bored today, decided to have a look at the betting. Im a big vautour fan and seen he was 3-1 general price which at this point is short enough for me. However, Silviniaco Conti at 6-1 i feel is a generous price for a horse that seems to love Kempton. Unsuccessful at cheltenham surely this would be his main target of the season.
I would not argue with the list above, Vautour, Silviniano the 2 obvious ones. I would be surprised if Saphir de Reu had the speed to win a good King George unless it was very soft. The main issue as usual is W. Mullins. With Don Poli and Don Cossack as well as Vautour, which one will be targeted at Kempton?

He doesn't train Don Cossack. Don Poli is not anywhere near quick enough for 3 mile around Kempton. It is Vautous target, and as long as nothing untoward happens, he will be there.
And 3-1 will look very big on the day.

Stand corrected but Don Poli and Don Cossack are in the same ownership which is another complication. I hate backing in races this far ahead without knowing plans or even if the horse is back in training. A swe have seen with so maany horses in recent years, the leading lights can vanish from the scene as quickly as they arrive although I do agree that Vautour looks exceptional. Simonsig would have been on most short lists at this stage 3 years ago but has not run since.

I would of thought coneygree would take all the beating in this probable soft ground and kempton course form, I would rather back him for the KG than the GC at this stage

Gigginstown are a breath of fresh air, in the fact that they don't seem averse to taking one of their big guns on with another. They make the decisions where they go, not the trainers.
Yeah Simonsig went by the wayside, but these things happen. If Vautour can be kept right, he will be Mullins prime candidate, Ruby will ride, and I will be surprised if he is anything over 6-4. He could indeed start shorter if as impressive in Clonmel as he was at Chelt.
It would appear the perfect target for Don Cossack who would surely be the Gigg number one here, and has every chance of finishing second.

Conti simply can't be discounted around Kempton, effectively won on the bridle last year. Obviously, this one looks a much stiffer task and if Vatour stays the 3 miles he should be a bit too pacey for this lot. Coneygree seems to be a strong galloper but whether he has that turn of foot to see of Vautour remains to be seen, soft/heavy ground would be a massive bonus however. Don Cossack would probably suit this track too. That would leave Don Poli, Road to Riches and Djakadam to fight it out in the Lexus.

have just put up a similar thread, didn't see this one you started so apologies think conte is a cracking bet at the price still 6s available! each way a bet to nothing ! multi grade 1 winner ,course winner , goes in most ground, been there done it twice jumps, travels, with the right connections battles and as op says this will be his gold cup ,jeez am struggling to find a negative !

if gigginstown have any sense/balls they run don cossack on right handed tracks, down royal, kempton, ascot chase in feb, then, a very bold call, irish national at fairyhouse, finish with Whitbread/365 at Sandown with Punchestown possibly in between.
Don Poli, hennessy, Lexus, Goldcup, National,
Cooper not riding any of them though, he's fooking useless, bottle rotten,
Dodging bullets is interesting. nichols wont though.

Don Poli might not be as good as everyone thought after his RSA. I'd say against top opposition he wants 3.5 miles + or a bog. Vautour will most likely be Mullins' horse for this in my opinion with Don Poli / Djakadam in the Lexus or maybe one of them in the Betfair Chase. Vroom Vroom Mag is interesting horse this season too. I reckon she could end up being Mullins horse in either the Paddy Power Gold Cup or the Hennessy Gold Cup.

Mullins might have more than one for this. I know he was slaughtered by Vautour over 2 1/2 at Cheltenham but Valseur Lido jumps well and later proved he stays 3 miles. Mullins was surprised a few times how well VL did in his races, he won two grade 1s I think. I realise that Vautour didnt look to be stopping in the jlt and he looks a machine but I have a soft spot for VL and feel he doesnt get the credit he deserves so may go in for him in this. It will probably be my usual long priced loser rather than a short priced winner!I think the op is right about conti, this is his big one.

no, i think it was mccoy riding that made the difference..........
don cossack is nearly unbeatable going right handed.
and cooper is not the jockey he was when he took the gigginstown job.

Maybe so regarding Cooper (though he will probably bounce back from a poor season). But McCoy and Carberry both got very similar tunes out of Don Cossack, one left handed, one right. Simply no evidence to support your claim. And weren't you the one who said Don Cossack couldn't win after February?

Don Cossacks best piece of form in his novice year was probably at Aintree, left handed.
His best piece of form from this year was Aintree. Still left handed.
How the f*ck people can say he doesn't act left handed is beyond me. Nearly all the races which would have been on his agenda last year, and this year were at Punch or Fairy. That's where he has to go so.
He did get a poor enough ride plus a bit of bad luck at Chelt this year, otherwise he would have won the Ryanair aswell. Left handed.

Will this be a target for vautor? Doesn't Mr Mullins usually 'back off' his better horses around the Xmas period to have them bang on for the spring festivals? I know he has more ammo these days so things might be different. With his record in the race I would like to have anything Paul Nicholls runs on my side.

Don Cossack novice at aintree, second to Holywell, with a grand national winner behind...... classy alright,
of his last 13 runs, he's been beaten in 5 and 4 of these were left handed. 1 win at Aintree was left handed. So that 1 from 5 for LH, 7 from 8 RH.
Once cooper doesn't ride, i think he wins

Your figures are wrong Cacique. Two losses right-handed over fences - both at Punchestown.
Completions over fences:
Right handed: nine, average Racing Post rating = 158
Left handed: four, average RPR = 165.25
On the evidence available, he's half a stone better LEFT HANDED, though personally I don't see he's bothered whatever direction

Sure gonna be a lot of p1ssed off people if Vautour don't prove to be a 3 miler!!
Personally think he will, but whether he stays well enough to beat Coneygree is another matter.
Exciting season ahead for races over 3m - 3m2 though, that's for sure. Real talented bunch we have right now.

Mark Bradburnes interview on ATR was not very positive in discussing the King George. Will be running in the Hennessy and he said the King George comes too soon after it. Willie Mullins on the other was very happy with Vatour and is being aimed at Kempton after his Down Royal pipeopener.

cyclops I'mm going to lay him at Cheltenham cause he don't win there, and back him at punch/fairy/keMpton.
If cooper is riding him it's a different proposition..... He wwouldn't ride a quiet girl at the moment. So I'll be laying him for a place tomorrow.... He either wins or falls.
bring back Russell!!!!!

Ive a feeling The Don will be made to work a lot harder than his odds suggest tomorrow. If Harringtons mare makes it at a right good gallop her race fitness could give her the edge. Barry will have to get the fractions right though and she'll have to ping every fence from 5 out. One sloppy jump could be critical. She'll love the quickish ground and tomorrow will be her gold cup.

yeh I should think so,and if it's too hard they may not supplement him.The gold cup no doubt is his priority. If he turns up on the day though than I expect him to win. I think he's the best 3m chaser around and could improve as well With more experience.
