Forgotten Rules is a horse I've kept in my tracker since his breathtaking bumper win last April at Punchestown. Weld holds him in very high regard and was very clear that he was just a big baby and would be taking things as they come as the season he progressed. He then ran at Galway in August, again winning impressively. He was then thrown in at the deep end (literally, mud bath) at Ascot in October in the Group 2 Long Distance Cup where he travelled well throughout showing a nice turn of foot.

Having won at Ascot, it was clear to see that this horse is a potential star stayer in the making. It has been mentioned on a few occasions by people concerned about Weld's comments regarding ground. Weld has stated that the horse does appreciate cut in the ground, however during a recent At The Races stable tour he had the following to say (bearing in mind the ground was good to yielding at Punchestown and Galway) ...

FORGOTTEN RULES
5 b g Nayef – Utterly Heaven
Rated 113, unbeaten in a bumper at the Punchestown Festival, a conditions race at the Galway Festival and a Group 2 on British Champions Day at Ascot in October. He is widely considered to be one of the most exciting stayers in training.
“He has done very well over the winter and is likely to start off in the Vintage Crop at Navan. We think he’s an Ascot Gold Cup horse, the only thing is that he would like some ease in the ground. If the ground is good or even safe good-to-firm at Ascot, I think he’ll give a very good account of himself.”

Before his run at Ascot, I was quoted a best priced 10/1 for him to win the 2015 Ascot Gold Cup, knowing full well that if he won (beating the current Cold Cup winner, Leading Light) that price would disappear rather quickly so felt it was worth a few quid investment. He of course won and is now a best priced 4/1 for the race on June 18th.

Brown Panther will likely line up, as will Cheltenham Neptune Hurdle winner and stable companion Windsor Park, however I am confident Forgotten Rules has the potential to be on a different level and is definitely a horse worth following this season.
