Beats non stayers time and time again and it looks like Holywell is running in this.

Would think it is between holywell and SC

Think Holywell's different class to Silvi Conti - particularly on the likely good ground at Aintree.
Looking at their respective sectionals last year at Aintree, Holywell looked absolutely first rate and killed a good field in a well-run race. SC beat a non-stayer in Dynaste run at a crawl. This year's GC was the best for 5 years minimum and had the ground come up better, Holywell would have gone very close. Would be very surprised to see anything come out the woodwork and beat him next week. |

Poor old Conti gets some stick for a multiple champ

Never seen so many grade 1s fall into a horses lap

Bit of a joke that comment "... Think Holywell's different class to Silvi Conti ..."
Difficult to say that on this seasons runs... Still has a lot to prove... Few months back lot of confident threads about SC... suddenly he beat non stayers... It would be interesting to see DYNASTE vs HOLYWELL at Aintree? Anyway, I think Nicholls got it wrong with SC should have run him after King George... now that he has had his run... will be a different horse turning up this time. |

sick of excuses for this horse

I can't see what piece of form puts Holywell in a different league.
His Grade 1 novice win last season has more holes in it than one of Steptoe's jumpers. |

We'll see come tomorrow guys. I'm very confident of a win.

Just like Conti who thrashed utter garbage in Champion Court and Join Together. The horses SC beats up regular are all running in the 2m 4 race. |
|
By:
Can't have SC at all, in fact his GC run was worryingly poor for a favourite and you would have to think that he is past his best. Think Holywell is an improver and the likely good ground should be to his advantage.
|
|
By:
I agree Jasey. I think SC hasn't beat top class stayers but he has beaten grade 1 horses.
It will be an interesting race tomorrow but I'm not on this band wagon of "Holywell would have gone close in Gold Cup on better ground" brigade. Still plenty to prove for me yet. |
|
By:
I haven't lost the faith with Conti, and if you've got 7/2 I think that's a very fair price, although he does come here with his reputation dented a bit.
I'd be disappointed if SC or Holywell didn't win, but then again, I was there a few years ago when Follow the Plan bolted up in this at 50/1 to sheer silence in the crowd - can be a funny meeting this. |

very tricky affair betting wise and the front 2 although respected make limited appeal at the prices...am surprised no-one is talking in regards pace in this race, unless i have missed something...
silvi conti really has had it easy on the lead his last few races but can't imagine mccoy is going to allow this to happen and i am expecting him to keep fehily very honest from the outset here...i disagree with a post in regards holywells form which on last years race at aintree is a very solid race and he is a spring horse who hasn't had any decent ground all season, he is respected ma filleule is interesting and loves the track but 4-1 jeeze that is tight and we don't even know if she gets home yet, she does get the 7lb allowance though which makes it tighter to discount her, she can run in the first 3 menorah makes plenty of appeal but it has to be trusted that he is back in good form and he has become very in and out, he may well win but maybe he is a play in running because if it isn't a going day he generally runs like a rat anyway a desperate affair betting wise - however although he has a huge amount to find with these on ratings i still think he is a good horse and smad place is given one last chance, he just hasn't had his ground all year and finally he has it and should like the way the race should be run plus likes the track and after a light campaign he should be up to running a big race...he has plenty to find but am sure he is a mid to high 60's horse given ideal conditions and he has it here... |

Looks like it is pricewise

I'd avoid anything that ran in the gold cup, think it was a great race but will leave its mark on most of the horses. think its between Ma Filleule and Menorah.
|
|
By:
So Ma Filleule didnt have hard race at Festival?
|
|
By:
Not as hard a race as they had in gold cup as I stated.
|
|
By:
On my book SC should be favourite... like I said before discount any of the Cheltenham runnings and you can see a more realistic profile, I dont think he had a hard race... and is taking the same route as last year...
Hopefully the horse can do his talking on the race course The only horse that worries me is Menorah... has been prepared for this ...skipped Cheltenham... beat a good field including SC first time out this season... so might get close after 3 months off. |

SC was hanging and wobbling in this last year but still won. With Argocat 149(att)close up in 3rd i`m just not convinced he will win if running to the same level against Holywell who was ultra impressive last year in the Novice.
Personally i think Conti has been to the well many times and sooner or later it will tell, if he wins this then he gets mucho respect from me. However i feel Holywell is the fav. |

you underestimate the Nicholls effect will have him spot on

That's what makes Jump racing the best, some of Conti's jumps were just spectacular
pleasure to watch Fehily must have thought he had wings |
|
By:
Just got in and watched replay, excellent run by SC, plaudits also to jockey, gave it a peach of a ride.
|
|
By:
Great round of jumping from Conti and brilliant ride again from Noel.
|
|
By:
Actualy ThunderRoad I can see your point with Holywell... dont think Ap gave it a good ride at all... dont think he is the right jockey for him... horse has a very good record at Cheltenham ... another year bit more experience think this horse could be something... especially at 25/1 for GC and no McCoy maybe a more suitable jockey next time.
SC will never win a Gold Cup with those spectacular jumps... explains why Cheltenham undoes him... but a great horse nonetheless. |
