TOAST OF NEW YORK

Yes, it's that time of year again. Saturday the 1st of November is just around the corner and its guaranteed to be as epic and emotional as ever. Well, at least it will be for me as I have just arrived home from the bookies after putting £150 of my hard earned cash on Toast Of New York @ 20/1 in the Ante-post market.

Needless to say the cashier smiled and chuckled to himself when I lay 150 in notes on the counter, but I'll let you decide on whether he thought I was a complete mug or a really shrewd insider. Anyway, before accepting the bet, for a brief minute, he got on the blower to see if they could accept the bet. Unluckily for them, they did.

Just before leaving the shop, betting slip now firmly in hand, the cashier said to me curiously, "where did you get your tip from?" I replied, "a tip? I always back the British or Irish raider in the Classic." My reply was met with a strange silence and a kind of bemused look on the cashier's face.

If he didn't think I was a mug before, he most probably thinks I am now.

On a more serious note, win or lose, I love the Breeders Cup meeting and am immensely excited about this year's renewal. Personally, I believe that 20/1 is more than a generous price for Toast Of New York and I, for one, will certainly be raising a glass to Jamie Osborne should this beast romp in.
