Hopefully most of you will be familiar with this horse by now. Had its first run in a 2m bumper at the Punchestown Festival on 29/04/14 where he won by an impressive 13 lengths. Not entirely sure what he beat that day as the runners up haven't had a run since but you can take absolutely nothing away from the performance - travelled strongly throughout the race and won impressively. Weld said after the race "He's a very nice horse, but a baby. It's one day at a time, but he's a stayer with speed and that's what I enjoy training".

Recently ran at the Galway Festival in a 1m6f race beating Shu Lewis by 8 lengths. Shu Lewis of course went on to be beaten just 1 length at the Curragh by Aidan O'Brien's Ascot Gold Cup winner, Leading Light. Weld said after the race "He is a very good horse, potentially a lovely stayer. We'll see how he comes out of it and how he matures in the next few weeks, but the Irish St Leger is very much on the agenda. It's probably early to be taking on Group One horses, but he's an exciting horse. He's still a bit babyish and that was only his second start. It's possible he could go for the Irish St Leger Trial at the Curragh".

Paddy Power currently offering 4/1 on Forgotten Rules for the Irish St Leger on September 14th and 8/1 for the Ascot Gold Cup on June 18th 2015. Will be investing on both and would imagine the 8/1 won't last long should he bolt up in 12 days time at the Curragh ....

Won't lay a glove on Leading Light in either event promising though he may be

Dermot Weld has his eyes firmly fixed on the weather as he prepares his team for Irish Champions Weekend.

The Rosewell House handler admits he could do with some rain for his main players at the two-day feast on September 13 and 14.

Forgotten Rules and Pale Mimosa are Weld's leading hopes from four entries in the Group One Palmerstown House Estate Irish St Leger at the Curragh on the second day.

"Forgotten Rules and Pale Mimosa are in great form but they both need a cut in the ground," said Weld.

Pale Mimosa, winner of the Lonsdale Cup at York last month, could only finish seventh behind her then-stablemate Voleuse De Coeurs in the Irish Leger last season as Weld recorded his seventh win in the Classic.

Weld added: "The same can be said of Carla Bianca who holds an engagement in the Blandford Stakes on the same afternoon.

"The weather seems set fair for the coming days so we will wait and see for the moment and make a final decision about all our horses later next week."

Weld also has Alveena and Zannda in the Group One Moyglare Stud Stakes and Tombelaine in the Group One Goffs Vincent O'Brien National Stakes.

Really cannot wait to see Forgotten Rules back in action, definitely a horse with a huge future!

personally, I'd be wary of backing any Weld horse that he says needs cut antepost for the Ascot Gold Cup. He's pulled a different horse (Rite of Passage, Pale Mimosa) out of the Gold Cup on the day of the race in the last two years because the ground was too quick.

Will watch Forgotten Rules with interest if he runs over the w/e - is he planning a jumps campaign? Perhaps he'll end up in the Champion Bumper or the Neptune like Rite of Passage did before he won the Ascot Gold Cu.p

this is very true ReaseHeath, good points made there. Not holding my breath for an appearance on Sunday but will certainly be keeping an eye out for it in the future! I suppose those races could be taken into consideration, also noticed prices available for the Supreme Novice Hurdle along with Vigil.

Not qualified to run in champion bumper at this stage I think having run under "rules of racing"
Report brandyontherocks September 8, 2014 3:59 PM BST
Yep, only allowed to have ran in NHF races to qualify for the Champion Bumper.

Entered next Sunday at Navan in the 1m6f Coolmore Vintage Crop Stakes ... hopefully puts in a nice performance ahead of the Ascot Gold Cup next month.

Lot of positives to take from that win today. Will be doing my rain dance for Ascot in June.

Looks head and shoulders above everything else. Brown Panther just does not get the distance.

I'd be worried about the ground at Royal Ascot and am interested in how Mizzou gets on at Sandown in the Henry II. I am tempted by the 10/1.

Fast ground, proper quick, is a concern. Funnily enough, the same issue for Free Eagle also trained by Weld.
