Captain cat only two runs this year last week and back in April so can't see that he would bottomed after running nine days ago , wide draw not ideal but doyle is a patient rider who will get him into the pack soon enough . looks the clear form choice. GL

Did William Buick do a better job than George Baker? I wonder if the horse is just not good enough.

Oh, you mean Harry's post. Whether a horse would've won or not doesn't mean it wasn't given a poor ride. In every other sport comments are made in the media about poor decisions. In tennis, snooker, football, cricket, etc, poor choices of shots and decisions are referred to, whereas in the racing media there are only brilliant rides and unlucky ones. Utter bollocks and a complete turn off to most potential young racing fans. If poor rides are all going to be referred to as unlucky then there can be no such thing as a great ride, they just got lucky.

so did you think baker gave the horse a good ride at newbury feltfair? shame you didn't post your thoughts before the race but nice to have a good aftertime you seem quite pleased to shove it up me by your posts...grins and cry... i got the fav beat which is all i wanted the way i play...fanning rode them to sleep on the easy lead and chill the kite got buffeted around at the start and was very free off the slow fractions... you are right feltfair he wasn't good enough so well done clever guy clearly but i suppose emell was good enough to finish where he did in a muddling race, yes he was because he sat right on the leaders shoulder and had the run of the race just for the record figgis i agree a horrible ride by doyle |

Negativity followed by abuse, standard behaviour.

It was not a great ride on Captain Cat but the horse looked a total pig to me in the last furlong.
|
|
By:
Won 3 of his last 6 starts, not bad for a total pig.

By:
His head went in the air when asked to challenge at Goodwood.
|
|
By:
He's done it before, it's never stopped him from winning and he was still consenting to run on at Goodwood, crap ride.
|
|
By:
I agree he put his head in the air...the point is though he sat up in the saddle without asking the horse until 1 1/2 furlongs out after they had gone slow, sat motionless in fact...it had nothing to do with how genuine the horse is as he ran through the line, it was more down to doyle making the error of not getting his horse closer in a slowly run race...poor judgement on this occasion from the jockey no matter how you cut it but also a very good tactical ride from fanning

The worst thing, harry, was the post race explanations from cetain pundits. I had no bet on the race and decided to watch it on ch4 for the HD coverage, so I don't know what was said on RUK. Persad has his detractors on here but to be fair to him he immediately criticised the ride. However this was quickly followed by wishy-washy McGrath's feeble excuses.

Hope those who backed Captain Cat recovered losses yesterday. At least Doyle was openly honest in his criticism of his own ride, which is a good sign of a jockey that will improve on his mistakes, imo. Just a pity we have eunuchs as racing presenters.
